New Skate issues. Need some tips

Recommended Posts

I'v been skating on the same skates for about 6 years. Just recently I got a new pair of skates and have been breaking them in for about 2 months or so. The only problem I have with them is when i'm in stride I find myself falling flat on my face... It's almost like I stepped on a piece of stick tape and can't control my fall. I remember I had a similar problem with my old skates as well and I had someone do something to them to fix the front of the blade. Does anyone know what I'm talking about that knows more about sharpening skates?

Toe pic?

Seriously though, maybe you had a shop change the radius on your last pair? I would take them back to where you had them worked on the first go round and explain your issue.

It could be just that you're not used to a longer holder or even a larger skate size. Can you give us the information regarding your old skate brand and size, as well as the new one?

Something about the new skates is throwing off your balance. A less aggressive forward pitch, or even a negative pitch would bring you back a little bit.

My old skates were bauer vapor 12s. My new pair are vapor 6.0's. As far as sizes go, they are the same size as my last pair of skates maybe a half a foot bigger not sure.

I had the equipment manager for a pro team do it for my years ago, but I was to young to realize what he actually had done. I just know that on my old pair I was falling forward frequently and the equipment manager tinkered with them and fixed the problem.
