where to find a blade profiling kit for diy

Recommended Posts

You have an X-02, right? My understanding is that you can't do it with a portable (other than freehanding). I could be wrong though.

You can do it the old fashioned way where you measure and mark the steel, but there is no jig to guide you

Yes, I have X02.
Plus older EZsharp machine.

I saw at a local shop those templates (from maximum edge), spoke to the guys who do it.

Sorry if I may sound incorrect somewhere. From what I understood the process is more or less straight forward.

You mark centers of the skate, your heel and ball of your foot.

You have a templates. One of them (looks like a ruler) actually helps you to make marks on the blade.

Then you just go off the center of the blade and shave off the surface to match your Radius templates that place against the blade of the skate.

I am sure you got to learn exactly how to do it. It can't be hard.

I just don't know where to get those templates (except maximum edge ones, i never called them to find out though).

It could be too expensive...maybe not even worth getting into for me.

I guess when it's done by a computer it's way more proper?

Why not just have your local shop do the radius, $30 once a year, no big deal. Seems to me to be more trouble than it's worth. The way you propose is going to be somewhat innacurate, the difference between a 9 and 10' radius is less than the thickness of a pencil line. Plus are you going to grind with the template against the blade? If you do you will end up damaging the templates which are $50+ each. Doesn't seem worth the money even if it could be done accurately.

At local shop it's $40. Plus I am not sure if it's enough because after sharpening profile changes..

No, I don't think you grind along with template...You make some kinda marks and work them..

Not sure 100% on the whole technique...

I gave my stepsteel to be done at LHS, will see what happens, hopefully they can do it right ;)
