Inline to Ice Conversion- will water damage be an issue?

Recommended Posts

I am about to convert Mission Axiom T9s for ice hockey use. My friends say that I ought to be concerned that the boots will not be able to withstand the water challenges thrown at the boots. We play in a humid climate, on a humid rink, that is poorly maintained and often resembles a pond moreso than an ice surface. Any good water proofing sprays that can be used?

Hmmm, as long as you remove the footbed and air them out after every use I can't imagine waterdamage to be a problem to skates.....maybe drill some vent-holes in the outsole to decrease drying time (assuming the outsole is stiff enough).

Also add a dash of oil to the rivets/T-nuts from time to time to prevent/combat rust, and in case of T-nuts use loctite to keep em in place.

you may want to try neverwet/ultraeverdry/hydrophobic coatings to address that issue if you're concerned about it.

I converted a pair of T9s to ice a while back and I have had no problems. Just make sure you air them out and take out the foot beds after each skate.

Will do- I do that anyway with my ice and inline skates. Just out of curiosity, what was your motivation for the conversion? Same as mine, just wanted a nice, soft comfortable liner that won't punish the foot?
