Bauer Vapor and Supreme widths?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I'm in the process of trying on some new skates. I went into a big sports store and they actually had all 3 Bauer skates in 9.5D. The Nexus were huge on me in almost every dimension. The length on all three were fine. The Vapors were tight in the width and the Supremes were best all around, but a hair tight width wise. My question is: Are the Vapor EE's wider than the Supreme D or the same? And also, how much wider are the Supreme EE from the D? Nobody near me carries EE width in anything, so I would have to order them. I would be ordering from the LHS (local hockey store,Yes?), but I just wanted to see how things fit, so I went to the big store first to scope out the scene. I was trying on Supreme One 6 and Vapor X60 and they also had a returned pair of Nexus 800's that were already sharpened (no discount though). I'll probably go One 6 or X60/70 level skate. I have read some older posts and it seems that the Supremems are made on an E last and the Vapor are made on a D last. But, you can't buy an E width for some reason, It jumps to EE. Or is that just their designation for E? Sorry for the long post. I've looked through a lot of posts and haven't found that exact answer, yet. Appreciate any info along those lines. The last pair of skates I had that fit me well were Super Tacks from like 20 years ago. The CCM's I've tried since were way too tight and uncomfortable.

Sorry bout that. The width mid-foot. The vapors were tight side to side from the arch forward to the ball of my foot, like I wasn't standing on the bottom of the skate. The supremes less so, but a little tight. Toes weren't an issue in either. I could lock my heel into either one with the laces. I don't want to order EE vapors unless I get a little more room than the D supremes. I wish they supplied you with the width measurements, so I could just measure my foot.

When I tried on the X60, the regular was too tight, the W not bad, at the base of the toes; the regular heel was OK, the W too wide. In the One95, the regular fit was good.

I don't remember D, E, EE, so I used the terms I did.

Thank you. I've seen R and W as well, depending on the brand of the skate, etc.. I guess that the heel width changes when you go to E or EE. The heel fit was tight but good on both. I assume they will break in and loosen a bit. How much will the width change mid -foot as they break in?. They better be wide enough or it's gonna hurt. I just would like to know the difference between the width of the two. I could order one or the other from one of the online stores, but I would rather get them from one of the local shops. I still need them sharpened and I might need a tweak or two in the boot to make them perfect.

I'm also curious about the answer of vapor EE width compared to Supreme D

Having tried on both recently, I would say the EE Vapor felt slightly wider than the D Supreme, (Vapor x5.0 EE vs Supreme one.7 D).

Thanks everybody. boo10, how was the fit of the Vapor all around compared to the Supreme? I liked the snug fit of the Supreme, I was locked in pretty good, except a little too tight across the ball of my foot and back a couple of inches, mostly on the outside of my feet. Was it as snug in the ankle ,instep and heel as the Supreme D was? If that's the case, it sounds perfect for me. It was hard to gauge the overall fit of the Vapor because the D was too tight in the mid/forefoot and I really didn't get to lace them up real tight and walk around a little. Not to mention, the floor was linoleum and concrete, not the best place to be trying on skates. I can't find a pro shop nearby that carries any wide sizes. Now I'm wondering how much wider the Supreme EE is.

Some folks have found it worthwhile to drive a few hours to shops that stock a lot of sizes to try on.

Alternatively, IW offers free skate returns, and currently has 20% off.

I hesitate to say too much here because everyone's feet are different and you really need to try a skate on to see how it will feel for you.

Having said that, for me, I found the Supreme to be tighter in the heel and ankles. I would attribute that to the more anatomical fit of the Supreme. I'm not positive, but it seemed to me that the Supreme had a slightly deeper heel pocket as well, (Maybe one of the fit experts here can confirm or deny?).

Thanks again. I appreciate any info I can get and I know that I have to try them to be sure. I'm going to try to convince one of the local pro shops to order both in EE so I can try them on. If they won't, I'll have to take a drive to New Jersey, I think there's a shop there that may stock the wides, or just order them online. I'm trying my best to give the local shops the business.

The only thing that made the Vapor boots not work for me was the heel area. They have a more narrow V shaped heel than the Supreme and it caused me extreme amounts of pain. I've tried on some Nexus boots as well and can feel the same pressure on my foot. Supreme line is the only one my heel can do. Aside from that the rest of the Vapor boot was just as comfortable. I'd even say it was more comfortable around the ankle area. The tighter anatomical fit of the Supreme boots gives me some inner ankle pain but it's not bad enough to keep me out of them.

Unfortunately I didn't find out the Vapor heel didn't work for me until I already had a pair. Just putting the skate on my foot they felt fine, it wasn't until I actually skated that they started to kill my heel. Look up Bauer bumps and you'll find what I was talking about. Luckily I bought them used and paid a fraction of new so I wasn't so sad they were a total waste.
