Supreme Skate Adjustments (Altering to match Vapor stance)

Recommended Posts

I switched from Vapors to Supremes (x50s to one.9s) and the fit has been much better. Though the boot fit is much better in the supremes, I noticed my acceleration has taken a hit since the switch.

What would I need a pro shop to do in order to alter the stance to match that of the vapors?

Heel lifts to put you on your toes and provide a more aggressive stance like the vapour boot? Profiling the skate blade?

Profile first......if that doesnt fix it try the lifts as a last resort.

Back when the supremes first cam out I was all over having lift's and there was the video posted by hockey mom. (Just a few years back now...LOL)

But now with minimal effort on profiling and the new boots and blade to boot profile I get similar results with having to do anything to the boot or holder.

That being said some still need more then the 32nd of an inch I would take off at the maximum. Knowing that is a minimal amount its far faster for ME to profile then take out rivets cut and shape lifts and re-install them.

To each is own but my preference.

Just to throw out a third alternative, you could try an insole like superfeet, which will give your heel a lift (without altering the skate). With superfeet, if they don't work, you can always get your money back (within 60 days or something) so that's probably the lowest risk option.

IDK

Just went through this myself...

Heel lifts made the biggest difference. Now the feet are happy and the pitch is close enough to no longer justify what had become torture in the vapors.

how many times have you skated in them? If it is only one time you may want to give it a few times on the ice before you make any changes. I went from grafs to supremes and it was defiantly a different feeling but it only took me 4 or 5 skates to get used to the difference in pitch. Just my .02

For additional history, I skated in the skates a few times, got injured, then have skated in them a couple times a week since late August, early September. The injury was a hand injury so shouldn't have any affect. I noticed a learning curve early on and most of the initial issues went away except for the quick acceleration. I have noticed the concept of a more powerful stride, but that could just be due to the runner.

I want the best of all the worlds, comfortable boot, acceleration, top speed in that order.

Would heel lifts require an adjustment period? How high should I request?

do you guys think a similar process for T1 NXG to match Mako stance? I have skated in Mako for 6 months and love them. was gifted some new T1 NXG's. They feel much different (although the fit for the upper is close). So maybe match the radius and add a heal lift? Thanks in advance.

Good question. So hard to do the Mako's if our not using the Bart system of Blademaster or Blackstone IMO. I would say the best in this case would be lift's and leave the profile. Maybe blend the toes as the Mako's are.

Its amazing watching how many mods people here do to their skates getting bad information. Countless pros have no heel lifts etc and switch to the skate made for their feet. Yet here we can tell everything about little things like acceleration.

I will say it again there IS NO PITCH difference in the VAPOR or Surpreme footbed. There are volume differences but that is about foot shape and size. The Last is different and the tongue is different. Keep using the pencil test and other great ways to fit skates. I am sure guys here know more about mods to skates than the NHL EQMs. One NHL EQm rolled his eyes when I asked him about all the mods... Of course he agrees with me on the Vapor vs Supreme but then again he doesnt bother with the pencil test and heel lifts.

Pitch difference between footbeds? And yes the APX and Supreme are the same Pitch... however not the case with the rest of the Vapor line. Pretty easy to measure that not to mention verification from Bauer.

so really it is either a 3mm heel lift or superfeet? what color superfeet is recommended? Initial thoughts are I think I would prefer to try the lift versus footbed because then the actual boot is elevated versus just my foot. The entire boot fits perfect, I'd just like a slightly more aggressive stance.

Either way, lift or Superfeet, the extra height helps achieve the angle in your ankles that you want. The insoles though will cause your feet to move up a bit in your boot which may change the way your boot will fit, but a simple re-bake should address that issue. Lifts are more permanent and are less simple to revert back to your original pitch should you desire. The yellow Superfeet is the one that everyone gets for hockey skates.
