New Inner Ankle Rub in Nexus (Right Foot Only)

Recommended Posts

I think I know what's going on, but figured I'd put this out there for some add'l feedback.

Added yellow Super feet to my Nexus skates a few weeks ago to relieve some arch and outer foot discomfort. That was successful, but I think in doing so, I may have created a volume issue in my ankle area. It's only affecting the right inner ankle bone, and it appears to to be rubbing on the verge of the eyelet. Meaning, it's almost missing the foam padding altogether. I put the bauer footbeds back in to see how much difference there was, but I really couldn't see a noticeable difference. I'm not dealing with great pain, just irritation.

Any thoughts/ideas? This is not debilitating - just annoying....

On a more positive note, my Reebok Ai9 (pro-stock clearance) arrived in time for my game this past weekend. This is my first high end stick, so I don't have any broad-sweeping comparisons to make against other sticks. A few hours with it, and it feels great.

did you rebake the skate after the superfeet were put in? the yellows especially raise your heel up a little. take them out, heat them up, put the yellows back in, out them on and let them remold. super feet also move your feet back a little so a rebake can help out some other areas as well. if that doesnt help a bandaid on the spot under the socks (that im guessing you wear) before putting on the skate may help as well for a quick fix.

did not rebake after inserting Superfeet...........didn't realize I could/should. I used a bunion pad (little doughnut shaped Band-Aid pad) in my last skate, and that seemed to help.

how many times have you baked them already? for most skates you can bake them up to 3 times if need be. My missions say i can do 3 bakes on them and since they are also Bauer owned i would guess you would be good for another.

I did one bake on the skates last season when I first got them. Are you saying to bake them specifically with the superfeet in as the new footbeds to get better shape/contour on the superfeet?

Have you removed the plastic plug in the access hole for the nut that holds the LS2 blade in its holder? That plug can unnecessarily raise the superfeet heel, so you might gain a mm or so by removing it.

Yes. superfeet, especially the yellows, move your forefoot back a little and the heel up bc the slightly thicker volume they have as well as them being a heal aligner. just remember when they are in the oven make sure the superfeet are out of the skate, then before you put your feet in to mold throw them back in.

To clarify - Skates are not brand new - this is my 2nd season on them. I baked them initially, no real issues to speak of. This season, I found some foot pain developing (consistent with arch discomfort and strain........and being that my arches have flattened over the last 10+ years). I replaced the Bauer footbeds with yellow superfeet. That eased all the foot pain, but, I think, also led to the slightly different ankle position on the right foot. I'll go with another bake, and then insert the superfeet as I lace them up.

I wear Nex 800 skates and both inside ankle bones come close to the eyelets.. the skate is not deep enough there for me as well. I didnot notice at first but after 20 or so skates i developed nerve pain accross my ankle bones.. I now wear thin gel pads on the inside ankle bones under my socks and problem is solved.

I tried the ankle booties which worked great but cause my toes to bunch up front to much as graze the toe caps normaly.

Good to hear this from another Nexus boot owner. I'm in the 400's, and in EE's. I used a basic form doughnut pad (corn/bunion type thing) for the first time a few days ago - that seemed to stop the 'rub'

I'm certain this has to do with the addition of the superfeet and a different volume reality in the boot. so I did a rebake last night (only 2nd time I've baked these skates), then inserted the superfeet. We'll see if that helps too.

but the superfeet were in while they were molding to your foot right?

yes, baked without the footbeds, inserted the superfeet and laced them right up after heating.
