My mom bought me one of those. They sell them at my LHS. They were like $25 or something crazy like that.

If you want me to pick you up a few, shoot me a pm.

Neck guards suck. Our organization makes us wear them. My whole team actually wears black headbands around the neck. Not only are they smaller, they're much more comfortable because they stretch. They essentially serve the same purpose.

Safer too.

We just pulled the plastic insert out of neckguard, therefor it is still cut resistant(unlike a headband), but it wouldnt help for a direct hit with a stick or puck though.

The ballistic nylon models with the plastic insert are made to deflect away an impact. If the impact is from a skate it could deflect the impact in a manner that is more dangerous than simply absorbing the impact. They work well to deflect pucks though.

I use the bauer neckguard except just the neckguard part not the tank top. Its very comfortable and if you have to wear a neckguard I would suggest this one.

The bauer "bib" claims to have pieces of carbon in the neckguard. Everyone i know who has one hates the comfort of it. I think they designed the material to scratch you're neck <_<

Really? Well I must have a differnet one. Mine feels exactly like a turtleneck except a little smaller. No carbon pieces whatsoever.

The sole purpose of a neck guard is to protect the jugular vein in your neck, a standard sweat band does not do this because it is so narrow/small and therefore is not safer than a certified neck guard. Yes, a neck guard with a plastic insert will deflect the blade to other places on your neck, but it will keep your jugular protected and that is the most important thing. If you remember the Clint Malarchuk incident, the reason it was so gruesome was because it was his jugular that was cut.

When my skates are freshly sharpened, I can't even put soakers on them without the blades cutting them up, i've had to re-sew the same pair of soakers probably 10 times already and soakers are essentially the same material as sweat bands, so I can't imagine wearing those around your neck instead of a standard reinforced neck guard. I wish a company made soakers that were reinforced with kevlar or something.

This Bauer tanktop with a built in neckguard sounds pretty cool.

After I sharpen a pair of skates and can run it along my arm and nut cut myself. I'm not crazy enough to try my face of neck yet. After skating you can cut yourself with it, but it shouldn't be right after sharpening.

I've played hockey for 10+ years in the same organization that has required a neckguard for all practices and games, and honetsly, its been worthless. Like most players, I have taken quite a few shots to the neck, whether it be slashes, spears, pucks, or fists, and the neckguard does little to nothing. I understand they protect against skates to the neck, but A) how often does that happen? I can think onf one istance ever (Clint Malarchuk). and B) Chadd is right, they don't help the situation at all. If I'm not mistaken, and if I am someone please correct me, the jugular is located at the top of the neck in a region left unprotected by most neckguards. I can understand requiring mouthguards, but neckguards suck.

I have an Itech NK22 and a bauer turtleneck and I find the turtleneck to be 20x more comfy, the Itech is too stiff for me, and I like to be able to be able to rotate as much as I can with a neckguard on (and everyone else too..)
