Entry Level Easton's?

Recommended Posts

I've played hockey my whole life, minus the last 6 years or so. The Easton's I wore for the last 4 years of playing got beat up and worn down, and after being stored away for all these years, they ended up getting thrown out.

So, basically, I am looking to pick up a pair of skates that would be adequate for pond hockey/the occasional drop in game. I have been out of the loop of new gear for years, and seeing that Easton's were the last skates I wore that I loved (wide, flat feet) I was looking into their entry level skates.

So, my question is, are the Easton Stealth 55S's a decent buy, knowing what I plan to use them for? I don't want to break the bank. Assuming the tech is better these days on entry levels, I think I'll be ok.

Also, it looks like these Entry Level skates don't come in half sizes, at least the Easton ones on HockeyMonkey don't. I would need an 11.5, think I could get away with a 12?

Thanks!

One of the most common advice given here: don't skimp on skates.

As your feet are rather large I am just assuming you are a bigger guy, so those very entry level skates will have a hard time supporting your weight. My advise: go up to mid-level skates or even better: buy used high-level skates - neither will break the bank and just provides you with a lot better experience. I told myself "well, it is only x€ per time on the ice, thats worth it" to justify my first used high-level skate :)

You might also watch for Bauer Nexus or Supreme skates. Try on everything you come across and keep notes. Any decent stores near you with used gear?

I wear a 12D (narrow food) so I know how infrequently really big skates pop up, but keep your eyes open, they're out there.

If you find a screamin' deal on some used big guy skates, buy them, even if they're close, but not perfect. They're already used, and you can always resell them again when you find the right ones.

Try on everything as skates fits have changed as well as materials, also a good chance your foot shape is now different as well. After you determine what fits you best I would look to see if you can get a clearance deal on a mid level or higher skate, or look.here at some minorly used skates members are selling.
