Is this foot type guide for skates accurate?

Recommended Posts

Found this foot type guide on Hockey Giant. It's meant to give you an idea of the ideal foot type for each skate model. Is this accurate? I'm currently in Totalone's but I'm going to try some APX2's tomorrow, and according to this guideline they should be a good fit. If I'm in 8.5D in the Supremes, would I be a 8.5D in Vapors as well? Thanks

The lenghwise is all the same for all 3 Bauer model lines, but the width is noticeable different. I had a Nexus 200 (was too wide causing my heels to not lock properly), then a Supreme Totalone NXG (I love this skate, but it was giving me so much pain after every skate).

I have also tried both Vapor APX, APX2. The Vapor APX felt quite comfortable but was very shallow, the Vapor APX2 is again very shallow and has a narrower ankle fit than APX, I remember once I put my foot in my ankle was being squashed so tight it was starting to hurt already.

I ended up with Easton Mako as its the most comfortable skate ever and doesn't give me any pain after skating, if you're going to spend the money on top of the range skate definitely try them all on and you might be amazed with what you find..

I would say its a good benchmark to go off of and point you in a good direction. However the MSH mantra still stands; No way of knowing without trying them on for yourself. I personally wear a Supreme in a D but cannot fit comfortably into a Vapor D.

I don't like it, specifically for the heels.

Mako and Stealth have narrow heels, while supreme has a wider--in my experience. Supreme provides me with no heel lock. Easton and Graf skates are the only ones that do.

I'd also never describe Reebok, or CCM skates as "regular" width.

It's misleading and inaccurate. Words like "regular" or "snug" mean nothing, especially when the fit is very different on items that are marked with the same words.

I'm with Chadd on this one. I get that an online retailer needs some sort of fitting information to substitute for tangibility, but they could've tried harder than this.

Came across Bauer’s description of their boots.

Nexus: Wide, volume,

Deep heel pocket

Supreme: Anatomical fit

Close fit around entire foot

True 360 custom fit for max. wrap

Vapor: Standard fit in the toe box

Narrow V-fit in the heel/ankle

The funny thing is that the Supreme is built on a wider last than the Vapor, despite being "anatomical fit"

I hate to offer free advice to retailers, but if you're going to make a chart like that, rate them on a scale of 1-5 narrow to wide or something like that.

These fit descriptions have been discussed before. Yes, the fit of the Supreme is designed to be anatomical, and close all around, but it's designed around a WIDE foot. Heel to toe wide, I'm talking. Where-as vapor has a fit that resembles a "V" (heel being thin, to a larger toe box) but it's built much narrower, and as a result will result in a closer fit for most.
