Why no hockey skate tongue anchors?

Recommended Posts

In addition to playing hockey, I run a lot. One of my favorite features in running shoes I've tried is the "tongue tied" loop that Brooks puts at the top of its tongue. It's just a nylon loop stitched onto the tongue towards the top set of eyelets that the lace goes through, and it does an excellent job preventing side to side tongue movement. It's tough to see but look at the top lace on the link below. for an example.

I know a lot of hockey players with the tongue shifting to one side of the boot during play, and while this is helped a little by waxed laces, the loop just seems like an easy, really cheap fix. Obviously you'd have to make the loop out of a tougher material on skates, but nevertheless, interested to know your thoughts.

Just saw it on a picture of the G75s. Kinda cool, never knew. The Brooks system actually has two loops, one about 3 eyelets down in the center and one that only has one lace go through it near the top eyelet on the part of the tongue closest to the outside edge of the shoe. Really locks it down well but I could see how this could be a pain when lacing a skate as opposed to a running shoe.
