Bauer XXX Durability

Recommended Posts

First timer on this forum, you guys seem to know your stuff. I just bought Vapor XXX's. I was going to buy Grafs G3s or Synergy Skates but when I tried the Vapor XXXs on I knew I had to buy them (plus they were cheaper than the Synergys and the same price as the Grafs). I never had skates that felt so good on my feet. I knew the previous year's XXs had a lifespan that could be timed with a stopwatch but supposedly many of the problems that plagued the XX's were fixed with the XXX's. I am concerned about its durability and I want it to stand up to a year of playing 3 games a week in adult leagues at a medium-high level of play. I was wondering if anyone has used or evaluated the XXX's and know what kind of lifespan and durability it has (including its runners) and if it has any glaring weaknesses. I want it to last me a year and a half at least.

Several areas of the skate has been improved to increase durability. The liner & logo have been changed. The graphics on the skate 1/4's have changed from silk screening to sublimation which is much more resitantant to abrasion. The steel is new & the harware screw post & magnatized nut have been changed.

That said, 1) you still need to be fitted right, if the skate is too big your foot will move more & cause the skate to break down. 2) Heating skate at 175F for a maximum of 2 minutes, lace up not too tightly, stay sitting down, do not stand up & or flex forward on the skates. If these steps are taken there should be no issue getting 1 1/2 yrs at a rate of 3 games per week out the XXX.

skates - how would you compare the XXX's durability to the 8090's? They are both at the top end of the light skate market.

Vapors used to be geared as the lighter, more agile skate while the Supreme's mantra was durability

I know the skates have a different fit, but is there still this breakdown between vapor and supreme as both skates are very light?

i dont know folks but i'm now into my 2nd season with the same pair of XXs that i got last year and they are still holding up pretty well and i am hard on skates. i only changed the holder cuz i took a slapshot off of it and it cracked. i still even have the rubber sfl logos on the side in tact.

i know people say they feel like butter after awhile but mien arent so bad. ill finish the season in these and move on the xxxs prob or xxs, but im thinkign xxxs as i play high level hockey and would like a full 2 yrs out of them.

im just saying that i find unless u get the 8000, wont all skates turn to butter?

just finished exams and am alone so i needed to talk

Just curious, how is the fit of the XXX compared to the XX and 8090's? Is it pretty much the same as the fit of the XX?
