mnpucker 33 Report post Posted March 23, 2014 If you have not heard of this teams accomplishments here are some recent stats to get you up to speed.Tomorrow the Gophers take on Clarkson and will be going after their 3rd straight national title. Last year they were 41-0, Over the past two years they have a record of 79-1-1. They have a 3 year record of 114-6-3. They had a 64 game win streak that spanned the 3 seasons. This year started off with a 11-1 victory over Team Japan, the very team that should have been in a medal game in Sochy had the officials not botched an obvious goal vs Russia. They most likely could give Team USA a run for their money, reality. They entered this season with uncertainty having lost 5 seniors and 2 to the Olympics, Amanda Kessel up front and Lea Stecklein on D. They were short of defenders so the coached asked the forwards who would be willing to drop back and play D for the season, 1 girl ended up playing prominent role at a position she never played before. Their freshman class was thrown into the fire, their inexperience was obvious early but they grew and developed and contributed greatly. Today's game will be live streamed via NCAA.com at 2 pm central. There was a day that I was not impressed by Women's hockey. That day has passed. Women's college hockey is alive and growing. The skill is world class the depth of talent is building. This group of players will prove to be responsible for a surge in girls youth hockey that will continue to fill Coach Frost's Pipeline. Coach Frost? Yeah he can coach. He knows how to bring a team together both socially and on the ice. His recruiting efforts look for Character as much as skill.Oh and by the way next year Amanda Kessel and Lea Stecklein will be back from Team USA. They have the best recruiting class in the country incoming.......Yeah potentially 4 straight Natty Champs depending on what happens today.I am not sure I know of any team in any sport that has achieved what they have. Not in modern day. Good luck Gophers!!!

215BroadStBullies610 435 Report post Posted March 23, 2014 The best part of women's hockey is that they emphasize the basics. I enjoy watching NCAA/International women's hockey anytime I get the chance. Impressive to see UofMN dominate the way they do.
mnpucker 33 Report post Posted March 23, 2014 Well the Gophers came up short, not their best defensive effort but credit to Clarkson for exploiting those weeknesses. First ever non-WCHA champion. That is a good sign for Women's College Hockey. Congrats to Clarkson.
forbs02 20 Report post Posted March 24, 2014 Well, a solid weekend but didn't win the big one. The girls played hard but the pucks didn't quite fall their way. It was a great season with a great senior class.
goblue9280 33 Report post Posted March 25, 2014 Only team I can think of off the top of my head is the UNC Womens soccer team. According to wikipedia, they've won the NCAA title 21 of the 31 years it has been awarded including 9 straight from 1986 to 1994. They also had a win streak of 92 games from 1990 to 1994.I am not sure I know of any team in any sport that has achieved what they have. Not in modern day. Good luck Gophers!!!
