Can someone give me info on my skates (90s Bauer Supreme Power 1000)

Holy Jumpin'! Are those NOS?

Can't help you on year of manufacture or boot composition.

How long did you wear them after baking? I have been known to wear my skates whilst watching hours of tele.

I had a pair of those that I used for rec skating and used when I first tried to come back to playing. Mine had a manufacture date stamped in the inside of the boot - Dec. 1997.

They're old-timey construction, no composites or anything like that. Baking probably won't do much and might actually hurt.

If I recall correctly, you're a pretty big guy. I'd recommend finding other skates. In my experience, these didn't provide enough stiffness.

I don't think these would respond well to baking, and my opinion has always been if the skate requires you to run around the world twice to get them to be servicable its probably not the right skate for you.

Probably 30 minutes the first time. 30 minutes the second time when I heat gunned them directly

NOS? sorta. I bought them new as my backup skates to my Custom Supreme 100s (which I wish I still had, I blew out a seam on the eyelet track)

I HATE stiff skates. I always preferred the low end skates that had a LOT of flex. My dad's Custom Supreme 2000s are my favorite skate, but he won't give them up...

I just got some SuperFeet for them. Hopefully it helps a little

Yeah, I just don't have a budget for new skates

Those were low-end Bauers in 2000.

They're not heat-moldable - all you'll do is shift glue around, which isn't a good thing.

Really? 2000? hmm, why did I have them in 2000... I was done with hockey at that point... I was reffing though... I probably wore them 3 times then and put them away and skated with my busted ass 100s

I'm not going to spend any more money on these... I'll probably upgrade to Nexus 5000s when they come out.

My biggest issue right now is that they're tight in the heel and I'm trying to loosen that area up a little.

My feet go numb in the heel when I'm sitting down

Yeah, I don't really like stiff skates either, but I found for me, at 180ish pounds, these were flexing too much in the wrong places. Certain edge control stuff was easier for me because of the flexibility of the boot, but then other stuff would be impossible because when I did need the boot to provide some resistance/support, it couldn't. But it sounds like you're a more capable skater, so that may work in your favor.

My dad's best friend was Paul Vincent. He taught me to power skate very young and part of that was a full stride with an ankle/toe snap follow through. He worked hard on ankle strength and preferred that I wore flexible skates. That's why modern skates scare me. There was a drastic turn towards using stiff uppers when I left hockey in 2000. It was all about stiffness and I couldn't skate with those.
These 1000s are stiffer than I would prefer, but I'm hoping to work them into a flexi flyer soon enough.
I'm debating going for newer Nexus skates or trying to find some used 2000s from the 90s. Or bribing my dad for his old blue/white 2000s

When you're eventually in the market you should look at Grafs. I prefer the same feel as you (I actually attended a few of PV's camps when I was younger) and am currently in Totalone NXGs laced an eyelet or two down depending on my mood. The combination of lateral stiffness with unimpeded forward flex is amazing once you get used to it.

mmm, forward flex... love me some forward flex.

I was thinking about Grafs actually. the problem is I'd love to actually SKATE on them. trying them on in stores is never good.

I'm a defenceman, so I skate backwards a lot...

that toe snap when going backwards is key for my mobility... and it really gouges the crap out of the ice. :D

I might see if my dad will loan me his skates for a few games...

His are the ones with the blue and white FloFit logo on the tongue

I just looked up Paul Vincent... I didn't realize he was so famous now... or how much his clinics were.

I went to them 2-3 times a week and at one point was a fixture in his indoor training camp on Rt 1 in Peabody (the first time I ever saw an ice treadmill.)

I would spend hours on that ice treadmill going UPHILL every week. I know it closed... do they still have those ice treadmills?

I even taught for him in Peabody a few seasons.

He was actually my father's assistant coach when he was head coach in Beverly MA in the late 70s and early 80s. He lived one street away and had me on skates before I could even walk (dragging me around the old Beverly Rink on Bob skates)

glad to see he's still around.

I've got a few games on them and a few regular skate sessions

They're not bad when I'm skating... but when I get to the bench to rest, they kill my feet...

it's fine if I'm standing, but they pinch my heel when I'm sitting

I wish I could blow the heel out a little more.
