Mould growing on visor?

Recommended Posts

Last week i was lazy and didn't air out my gear for a couple of days. Anyway I got to my game today and put my helmet on only to see this weird little mould coloured patch right in the middle of the visor. Little dark green dots.

I tried to wipe both sides of my visor and it didn't come off. i tried to scratch it with my finger nail but i couldn't even feel the specks.

is it possible that there is mould growing between the anti-fog or anti-scratch and the visor itself??

if so, how the hell do i get rid of it? it's a near new Bauer HDO visor so I want it to last.

This is interesting. I would guess the plastic of the visor wouldn't promote mold growth to. Whom with but if it's really between the antifog that's some tenacious mold.

Yeah I'm really confused by it. I would think that if it were on the outside I could just rub it away but that doesn't happen. Using a microfiber cloth I can rub and rub on either side of the visor and nothing happens. I've since noticed another tiny spec right at the top of the visor where you can see where the anti-fog ends.

Not sure what it would do to the treatment on the visor but Clorox usually makes mold, and most other living things uncomfortable.

But if rubbing doesn't work you may have to try something a bit harsher.

It could be the anti-fog layer itself.

When I used the CCM visors (can't remember their name), the anti-fog layer on the inside of the visor would get "mold".

But it wasn't really mold. It was some kind of reaction of the material in the layer when mixed with sweat. Maybe this is what is happening to you.

There was no way to make the layer clear afterward. On the CCM's I managed to carefully remove the layer without scratching the visor. I would have to apply anti-fog with a spray before practice.

So it's kind of like fungus growing in the actual layer itself? that's crazy! and ridiculous. i seriously cleaned and wiped out my helmet and visor before putting it into a dry helmet bag and then into my bag. sure i left it in my lounge room for two nights before i hung it out, but i just don't know how this could happen.

i'm so bummed about this. it's only small but it's right in the center of my vision and i just know that it's going to drive me insane.

does anyone else know anything? i'm desperate to fix this otherwise i'll have to buy a new one.

I get the feeling they might say "well you didn't air it out straight away so this is your fault" when really who uses a chemical on a visor designed to be used by sweaty sportsmen that is incompatible with sweaty sportsmen. So grumpy right now.

Try seeing if there is a manufacturer's defect with it before doing anything. After thataybe try scratching it/picking it off with a pin or needle point. Something real small and precise. No need to dig and really kill it just see if you can get the green gone. Even if you do and it leaves a small scratch it's better than the green and it's worth the try if you're going to scrap it anyway.

Bauer's twitter has not replied. Could take it to the store next time I head there and see what they say. Seriously pissed about this. I treated that visor like a baby since I got it in December and it goes and pula this crap.
