Reebok Ribcor skate reviews

Recommended Posts

Im having trouble finding anything on here and on the internet. Sure, there's plenty of spec videos on youtube, but I can't find any videos or articles from people who have been using them. Now that it seems like CCM has gotten their mits on this skate, I'm tempted to give it a chance. However, in the past the few people I knew who had Reeboks had some problems with durability and things breaking on the skate. Does anybody own them here or know a buddy who does? I'd really like some more info.

what do you mean about "now that it seems like CCM has gotten their mits on this skate"

The new holder on this Reebok is the same one that's on the CCM RBZ. Eventually, Reebok will no longer be a brand, if I'm not mistaken. The new Ribcor skates are meant to try and get people who are currently in Vapors to switch over. The new Tacks are to try and steal Supreme users, and the RBZ is for Nexus users.

That's not true, they haven't done any positioning to suggest this. CCM/Reebok, which have long been one company but separate brands under adidas, have just now offered 3 fits like what Bauer offers.

So, in the long run, CCM will still be CCM, and Reebok will continue to sell it's product under the Reebok name? I don't know why I thought Reebok would just start merging the two brands...I know Reebok owns CCM now, as they bought them along with a few other companies for $300M+. I guess either way it doesn't matter what they do, but I always thought they were going to stream line things and just go with one brand.

Good to know though, thank you.

Anyway, I'm still looking for more consumer feedback on these. I guess since they haven't been out for too long, there really just isn't many people on them yet. I hate buying things with out seeing reviews...Oh well.

It's been stated here that Reebok will soon exit hockey. Whether or not their products will be rebranded as CCM products or otherwise, I don't know.

Sorry, let's get back on topic.

Right that's kind of what I was getting at. Poor writing on my part probably. It just makes more sense to me that CCM will want to compete directly with Bauer by offering three different lines of skates per brand, so consumers have an easier time.

So far from what I've read the Ribcor's are getting really good reviews. They aren't the lightest skate, but that's not an issue for me. I'm only playing on men's league teams, nothing that's going to win me any trophies, etc. I want something responsive and that obviously fits my fit very well.

Reebok does not own CCM. Adidas owns both. they have been in the same facility for a while now, so the Ribcor is no more CCM than was previous generations which shared the Epro holder. They might streamline to one brand, but that will mean more down the road. Ill leave this to feedback on the actual skate now, I just didn't want you thinking this ribcor was any more CCM than anything previous =)

Haha Ok I get it. I just read on the wiki page that Reebok bought CCM in 2004, but whatever I only searched for a quick second. Doesn't change anything in regards to the skate anyway.

I'll be trying on this bad boy tomorrow along with Mako IIs, X100's, and G8035's.

Will do!!! I'm going to guess that the Ribcor will end up being slightly wider, especially in the toebox area, which is good because I've developed large callous on my pinky toes from the box being a bit too snug. It took me a long time to develop them, and for quite some time, it gave me a lot of pain. Since there's no way to stretch the toe box, I just dealt. I otherwise liked my Vapors very much. It will take a lot to get me out of them.

Is it worth me making a new fitment thread or something? I hate to clog up forums with crap not many people will end up finding useful, especially because I am only trying on like 4 skates.

I would just stick to this thread. I think you know this but, they did make this generation of Reeboks narrower than previous generations

I've had the 30k's for a month or so now and I'm really happy with them. For me, they fit perfect without using the pump which is a big plus since I don't have a lot of faith in the air bladder's longevity.

Yes I know these are more narrow- that's why Im trying them. I'll just keep it to a quick impression of each fit relative to the Ribcor then. I know things will feel slightly different once they are baked and broken in, but I'll probably get a solid idea of overall fit of the boot.

To the guy who fit in the 30k's now...What was your previous skate before this?

Okay so I tried on the ribcor along with a few others. I was pretty surprised that coming from a pair of Vapor XXV''s in a 9D.... None of them fit me except Mako IIs.

Ribcor's had too much volume for me still. The heel was a bit too round and the boot was just a touch too large inside. The graf G8035 I tried in a regular width, and was also still too wide throughough. The heel felt better, but in general it wasn't very snug in the midfoot or forefoot. They didn't havre any narrows in stock, but I think that only changes the heel width. The X100's I was expecting to fit like a glove, because.. Well they were Vapors. To my huge surprise, they were too wide. I didn't get a heel lock at all, and the boot in general was just wider than my current Vapors. Pretty shocking to me. Lastly, I tried the Mako II's... Let me tell you, if anybody here has a foot on the narrow side.. try these on. It was like putting my foot into a slice of heaven. They fit so well and I didn't even have them baked. IOne thing I noticed though, that really put me off, was the carbon fiber around the heel looked like the weave was already starting to come apart or break down a bit. It was either a manufacturing default, or wear from all the people trying it on and walking around in them. Either way, I really question Easton with this skate, especially with all the issues people were having on the first one in regards to durability.

So at the end of the day, I'm keeping my XXV's. If the Mako II turns out to be more reliable than the first Mako, I may pull the trigger for Xmas or something. It really felt like an extension of my foot, like there was nothing there. I do wonder how I'd deal with the extreme pitch of the holder... Might take a lot of adjusting..

Exactly....this youtube video from Purehockey does a pretty good job breaking down the differences between the three skate lines (RBZ, Tacks, and Ribcor).

I remember reading something about how they changed the fit of the Ribcor, found the link http://modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php/topic/65822-reebok-ribcor-skates-vs-last-years-20k/?p=1000756
