I'm a big guy and I need help selecting a stick

Recommended Posts

I'm 30, 6'5 240 lbs with a 34" waist so I'm not a fat guy. I'm a forward and I started playing again after a long period of not playing. Anyway, I have a stick that's a bit short for me and an 85 flex. It's an Easton composite. I feel my slapshot even when it looks to connect well still seems weak to me. My stick feels flimsyish to me at times. I'm also relatively strong squatting/deads at 450+ and a bench of 250 or so. So my guess is that maybe I'm to strong for my stick maybe? Is that even a thing? Also, would there be a flex better suited for my size/strength? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah, try something higher than 85 flex. If you're doing that kind of benching weight, I'd try a ~100 flex and see how that goes. Then adjust from there.

I'd definitely move up in flex at your height and weight. Around 100 flex and going from there sounds about right as Optimus suggested. I know Warrior made their previous model coverts longer (63") than most companies, but that's not the case with the QR1. They do offer a longer QR1 (63") in limited curves and all the QR Pro sticks are longer (more curve options than the long QR1s and also more cost effective). Sherwood also makes longer sticks. You can add an extension to other sticks (wood or composite), but it's nice not to have to do that. So I'd certainly consider a 100 flex Warrior QR Pro, DT1ST or DT1LT or a 95 flex Sherwood N12 or Rekker EK15 if you like low kick sticks. If you want a mid-kick stick then a Warrior Dynasty or Sherwood T100 or T120 around 100 flex would likely be good options.
