crosskore 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 I listend to my ipod for like an hour today, then decided to recharge it so it will be full for my road trip tomarrow. Its been recharging for 4 hours now... and I only used it for one hour...Is this normal?
kovalchuk71 212 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 No, I think its almost time for a new battery.....Mine usually lasts me 3-4 hrs.
Thockey17 1 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 Everything seems to use battery power. If you change tracks alot by pressing the Previous or Next buttons, it has to turn on the hard drive to open the songs. This uses a lot of battery power.Do you have any settings running(equilizer, backlight, etc.)? Those usually aid in killing the battery pretty quick. Ipod's never completely turn off either. They are actually "sleeping" and using some battery. But it takes alot of sleeping to deplete a little amount of battery.Fully charging an iPod takes about 4 hours, so taking that amount should be fine.
crosskore 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 The battery wasnt even close to dead though. I just wanted to recharge the little bit i wasted for my trip tomarrow. But its taking 4 hours to recharge it. I just go the thing yesterday, so I shouldnt need a new battery.
kovalchuk71 212 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 Ok, usually after the 1st charge its fine....
J-Shera 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 Is yours new? If its new then it mite not of been fully charged when you got it and then when you used it it drained pretty quickly.
Thockey17 1 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 I just go the thing yesterday, so I shouldnt need a new battery. You wont need a new battery. What you need is a full charge. When you took it out of the box, did you charge it 100% before you used it?
crosskore 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 Yes , I charged it fully.I just took out the "fire Wire" and checked the little battery in the corner and its full, but when I put the wire back in, it still says "charging". I thought last time it was done it said "charged".Maybe its just so close to being done right now, that it looks full in the small battery.

kosydar 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 A lot of times mine will recharge overnight and when I unplug it, the battery will say that its only about 1/3 of the way charged. It then slowly works its way up to being fully charged.
Nigel 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 The first time I got mine, I did a quick charge of 3 hours of the box and then fully charged it at night. I believe that second charge took 2-3 hours and I didn't use it that much in that day.I've had some minor troubles with my battery life lasting 5-6 hours but it seems to be fine now. I usually get around 8-9 hours on my 4G 20 when they advertise 12. Not bad considering I occasionally play games and always use an equalizer. Don't put much stock at all into the battery meter, most of the time its inaccurate.
tyler9 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 Sorry to put this in the topic but i didn't want to start another one. I see on all the sites it says that an ipod is compatible with only windows 2000 and xp. is this tru? Will it work with windows 98.
tokes 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 Ipod's never completely turn off either. They are actually "sleeping" and using some battery. But it takes alot of sleeping to deplete a little amount of battery. I don't know what the limit is, but they do eventually shut off. Don't touch your ipod for a day and a half or so and it totally shuts off. YOu have to hold down the menu button and then it pops up with the apple logo before going to the main screen.I have a 4G 20 gig ipod, my brother has an ipod mini. I can get 15-16 hours out of a full charge if I'm not listening to it at stupid volume. My brother usually gets 9 out of his mini with the volume cranked.tyler9: The iPod's will work with Windows 98, but you need to buy a USB 2.0 card for them, and you need to download a service pack or something to take advantage of the full transfer speed. If you don't do this, you can't connect to the ipod and can't put any music on it.

I'm not sure if it is absolutely completely turned off but it is in a deep sleep mode and basically does a boot when you wake it. I don't believe you have to hold down the menu button, any button pressed worked for me but the apple logo boot does take around a minute. You are able to connect the iPod to a computer that doesn't have USB 2.0. However you will get a warning from Windows that the power is too low but you shouldn't take too much context into that. Transfers will just be really slow compared to 2.0 or Firewire. Have you ever tried this? I have a USB 1.1 port on the front of my computer, when I connected my iPod to it iTunes couldn't recognize it, I couldn't upgrade the firmware from apple, I couldn't do anything. Jbone 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2004 I think you got to buy the new Windows. Also after you get the new Windows is everything you had before still on your computer or do you have to get everything again?

If you do a new installation, you have to reinstall all of the other software over again.

Guest pr0ph3t Report post Posted December 29, 2004 My mini lasts about 5 hours. Also, does using "hold" waste extra battery?
Thockey17 1 Report post Posted December 29, 2004 Also, does using "hold" waste extra battery? No. Infact its good to use it. It will prevent iPod controls from being pushed, waking up and using unnecessary power-666th post

Check to make sure you can run the upgrade from your current version of Windows as well. If you run the upgrade you may end up retaining any problems you currently have with your software.
