Heat molding question: CCM Jetspeed 270

Recommended Posts

Went to get my son new skates for start of squirt season. After looking at several skates, son picked out CCM Jetspeed 270 in size 2.0 which fit him well.

Asked the TH salesman if they were heat moldable, which they confirmed. Got them baked, fitted, and sharpened.

Got home and looked them up online and in the catalogue; all sources (even TH's website) say they are not heat moldable.

Seeing as how I can't know how the heat affected the foam and adhesives, thinking about returning them (within the CCM 30-day guarantee) and spending the extra $50 to get the 280s (or even last year's RBZ's).

Am I overreacting?

Probably grow out of them before any breakdown, either way. I wouldn't worry one bit.

Think he'd be okay in the RBZ's? That's a pretty stiff skate vs the 270.

Mind you, if I remember correctly last year's RBZ skates fit differently to the current Jetspeeds. That said, EJB's right, he's most likely going to grow out of them before it becomes an issue, but if you really are worried, feel free to spend the extra 50. Just be aware that the RBZ line fits differently this year.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'm going to go back to TH and have him try on the RBZs and see if he likes the fit. For $50 more, would rather go last-year top of the line than the JS280.

He'd played in youth Vapor x100 last year and fit a little snug, but liked the stiffness of those skates, so curious to see how he likes the RBZ stiffness.

Were the X100's he wore last year the junior or youth model? Just curious because if the X100's were the junior model, then the JS270's would be a big jump down in stiffness. I looked at the Jet Speeds for my son the week they came out at a TH... the store I was at only had the 270's and 290's. He was coming from a RBZ90 and the Jet Speeds fit his foot much better. Ended up going with the 290's because of how soft the 270 felt.
