Dryland training tiles - What are the options and alternatives?

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

As the title says I'm after some options for dryland training tiles. I want to use ice hockey pucks and set something up either permanently outside or in my garage. Ice time is hard to come by in my town so I need an alternative...

I've looked at these so far and they seem like a great option but will end up fairly expensive:

In my searching I've seen that a few companies offer similar products so I'm keen to know what you all recommend or what you have found as a good alternative??

The kid in this video is shooting off some sort of tile I haven't been able to accurately identify.. any ideas??

I found something that looks like what he's using on this website and it might be volleyball court flooring? Has anyone seen/used this before? Maybe that floor with some sort of spray on it?

Sorry for the long post and thanks for everyones input!

Try contacting a local plastics distributor / wholesaler. Maybe even McMaster-Carr. They should be able to offer full size sheets like 4x8 foot. I think they use delrin for synthetic ice. I think it ran $100 a sheet when I looked a couple years back.

Depends what you want to do. I've never enjoyed using Dryland tiles (or other tiles) with an ice puck for stick handling but they are good with an inline puck / green biscuit etc. They are also ok to practice shooting on. If you want to practice puck handling with an ice puck then I find you need a really smooth surface like a melamine board or similar enhanced with some silicon spray. Downside is they are not great for slap shots as durability is a concern.

It costs a bit more but you could try http://globalsyntheticice.com/. They have a special on at the moment for Super Glide Slick at $129 per panel.
