tpedersen3118 58 Report post Posted February 11, 2016 I was at my LHS yesterday looking for a new pair of skates for my 5yr old when I stumbled upon a treasure trove of new old stock skates and sticks. Supreme 7000, 6000, 4000; Nike / Bauer Vapors ( like the first ones), CCM 1152's and 852's, Graf's, just to name a few. The boxes were dusty and faded but the skates were new as the day they were made. I got really excited when I found some old Supreme 3030 wood sticks just like I had in high school (lefty jr's though). It was pretty cool to see some of the old gear I grew up playing in. I wonder, would anyone go back to wearing those types of skates? Or is the new tech and materials too hard to pass up?
Whiteheat145 3 Report post Posted February 11, 2016 I still wear my Koho Revolutions that I got back in 1999 for reffing and pond hockey(and as backups). When I'm in-between on skates, I just rock those for a few weeks, etc. I personally see no difference in most equipment to the point where it "matters" to me that I am better in my Bauers versus my Kohos. They are just really beat up, lol.I also have a pair of Mission Flyweights(the all black with the all microfiber blue inside) that are too narrow but I lend them out all the time to friends in need of a in-between skate. Heavy? Sure. Cool? Hell yes.Edit: By differences, I mean I do not buy the top notch so the difference between a mid-grade skate and an old school skate is little to none(to me). I'm sure there is a difference in the MAKO's versus the Koho's and so forth.
sickwilly 37 Report post Posted February 11, 2016 I just picked up a pair of Supreme 8000s and like them better than my NXGs and the skates 11k and Easton Stealth RS) that I used before them. I can't really explain it other than that they just feel better to me. I'm also using older TPS shafts most of the time. Does this store have a website? I'd love to grab a pair of Supreme 7000s if they had my size in the right width.

If you recognize the name, the store is run by Mary and Bob Suter (Yes, that Bob Suter, RIP - and Ryan Suter's parents). Mary is awesome and my boys and I enjoy visiting with her and her dogs when at the store. I'm heading back there on Saturday if you want to let me know what size you need, I can see if she has it.I just picked up a pair of Supreme 8000s and like them better than my NXGs and the skates 11k and Easton Stealth RS) that I used before them. sickwilly 37 Report post Posted February 11, 2016 If you're headed there anyway, that would be killer (and much appreciated). I hear you on the 8090's... That's what I was looking for on ebay when I stumbled onto the Supreme 8000s I'm currently enjoying. If they have anything like the 8000s or 7000s (and maybe even some Pro Tacks in 9EE or maybe even 8.5 EE, I'd be interested at the right price. Senior TPS shafts would be of interest, too. Thanks so much for offering to check it out.
SirJW 207 Report post Posted February 12, 2016 What kind of prices are they asking? Wonder why they haven't put them out on auction site somewhere so they can move the stock?
jimmy 194 Report post Posted February 12, 2016 What kind of prices are they asking? Wonder why they haven't put them out on auction site somewhere so they can move the stock?Probably because to sell something on ebay, it's an immediate 20% loss to the seller because of the fees. Better to hold on to the items as there eventually will be a buyer who says, "That's my favorite, stick, skate, etc" who will purchase it.
flip12 717 Report post Posted February 12, 2016 Also, I haven't been to Suter's in years, but from what I remember, the service was always very personal without being invasive. And they knew their stuff, so I kind of wish they had been more invasive at the time, as MSH wasn't around yet. Anyway, I'd imagine as long as their overall business is doing fine, they'd much rather sell those things in a personal way. The connection was always important there. I'm getting a little emotional/nostalgic picturing my young days rifling through the dense stacks of equipment there.

Mary and Bob moved the store from that small brick building on the corner to just across the street. This was about 2 years ago. Even so, the new store is still wall to wall with gear both older and new. With Hockey Giant and Total Hockey moving into Madison in the past 18 months I was a little worried about how Suter's would do, but to be honest with you I think most people appreciate the store and the experience and that keeps customers coming back. TPRO 1 Report post Posted February 16, 2016 The old stock I noticed on skates seemed to be youth sized skates. I was in the area for a tourney and stopped in. They did have quite a bit of replacement stick blades, both wood and conposite.
