Profiling Without Skate

Recommended Posts

Simple question for the profiling pros; Can a set of runners be properly profiled for radius and pitch without being mounted in the skate?

Put another way, if I have a set of runners with mismatched profiles, can I remove them from the holder and send them to someone for correction?

Proper profiling usually requires measuring the boot to find the balance point, so I'm wondering how this can be done without the skate on hand.

If done by hand (with profiling sled/bars) we would have to put the steel in a skate to determine center, then profile the steel.

@customskateworks has a new jig (based on his FreeRunner) that allows you to profile both sets of steel at the same time.

Thanks JR.  I have a set of Hyperglide runners that were messed up by a bad sharpener.  I don't know what the heck they did because they've only been sharpened twice, and now one runner is about 1mm taller than the other.  The toe on the shorter runner is also ground down to a shorter radius.

I'm hesitant to pay someone $30 or $40 if I'm not going to get a perfectly matched set.
