Cage Fit Question

So here is the situation: I'm currently wearing a CCM resistance 100 Medium, with the medium FM 580 cage that came with it. The helmet fits great, but the cage is a little... small? It doesn't close all the way to the J hooks because my chin is in the way, and feels a little short. I think I have a medium sized head circumference but a large sized face, so I want to try a large sized cage on it. 

Will a large CCM FM 580 cage fit on a medium helmet? This might be an obvious yes, but if so, do you think going to a large would help the cage close completely and fit better? 

Also, if I decide to go full gear whore, would a Jofa 271 cage fit on a medium Resistance 100?

You may have already done this, but your first move should be to try adjusting the J-hooks lower.

It's pretty normal to need a different size cage than your helmet.  I have the opposite issue of needing a medium cage but large helmet.

Yep, J Hooks are as low as they can go and it's still not really close to closing, stops when the pad hits my chin.

Yes a Large cage will fit on a Medium helmet.  I found the 480/580 cages to run a little small so I wear a Medium 4500 with a Large CCM FM580 cage

Another question: on the older Jofa 480 cages, does 480L signify that the cage is size large?
