Smaller visor for a narrow head?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

wierd title huh?
At the moment i do not play any moore, only coaching my sons U12 team for now, but the club i coach for are in desperate need for referees, so, i am going to start reffing U13 and U14 hockey..

Thing is, in Sweden the ref is required to wear a visor, and i dont have any since i sold my old Itech hs22 and my Warrior visor was all scratched up..

iv’e tried a bunch of visors in the past, but they all keep pulling the sides of my helmet outwards. I have no problems finding a helmet that fit, but they all loose the ”fit” once a visor is mounted.

iv’e tried using the Bauer spacers which are thicker on the lower side, but the sides of the helmet is pulled outwards anyway..

so, is there any visors on the market that have a tighter/narrower fit than others? Or am i doomed to have a helmet that wobbles on my head while reffing??

Howdy,

Assuming you can't find a visor that fits more narrow...

Its not out of the question that you could heat the sides of the visor and bend it in, but I'd be worried about changing the optics.  Of course, you could just tip the visor up so that you're not actually looking through it.

Is there some reason you can't add more spacers to the sides and use longer screws?

Mark

Just use some nylon washers to build on the spacers to reduce the gap. Also if your wear a Sr helmet, ccm visors come with spacers that fit almost perfect and result in little to no pulling of the helmet temples.

Iv’e tried a bunch of different visors and spacers, but all visors are pulling the sides of the helmet outwards.
I have a set of the CCM spacers which are tapered in one end, and i have a set of bauer spacers that have a similar shape, but thicker and shaped a little more square/blocky.. None of the spacers have worked for me.

i guess i have to try and add a few nylon washers and longer screws.

What size and brand and model is your helmet. I find it hard to believe that it would pull the sides that much even if you used ccm spacers with a CCM visor unless your helmet is a small or not an adult size. I've used the CCM visor with ccm spacers on a warrior and CCM helmet and it fit pretty much perfect with little to no flaring of the temples.

Also, a bit of a pull isn't the end of the world. If you look at the NHL players who use Bauer visors with the old school circle spacers they all pull the temples out a bit.

I have a few different helmets, which all fit my head without a visor on.. a Bauer Reakt 75, a Bauer 5100 and a Reebok 6K (Crosby style) all in size M..

The Reakt 75 is the one that fit my head the best all around, but with the temples of the helmet beeing pulled out, it make the helmet wobble and i really don’t like that feeling..

it might has to do with me racing motorcycles in the past, and i know the importance of a super tight well fitting helmet.

i simply don’t understand why they all make the visors so wide that even a XL helmet need big spacers.

I guess i have to live with the wobble when reffing. I really regret selling my old itech hs22 visor.

I think it's just your perception of how it should fit then. All my helmets have been medium and I've never had any issues with the CCM visor and spacers fitting properly with NO pull at all, but the helmets I've used have been ccm and warrior, not Bauer. Have you tried a size small helmet? Maybe you're in between sizes and the smallest temple pull makes the helmet a bit loose or at least looser than you personally like. Some pull in the temples shouldn't make or break the fit. You should consider the warrior alpha helmets since the adjustment is like a bike helmet with three boa adjustment system. Nothing to do with front back or side to side. It's a full all around adjustment.

Like you said in the other post just get nylon washers and longer screws. Not the end of the world

Nah, i’m more between medium and large in helmets. Iv’e have thought about trying a Warrior alpha one pro helmet, but they almost always come in a combo here in Sweden, so.. Maby i have to try one 🤔

As you said, with the boa, the fit is a little different than with other helmets. I might have to give it a try.
