Bauer 8000 Lightspeed Shoulder Pads

I checked out the 8000 lightspeed shoulder pads and they look awesome. However, I'm somewhat concerned that they don't offer enough chest protection - particularly in light of some blows to the heart that have resulted in fatalities.

They have a high density foam, but no hard plastic chest plate. Is this enough protection?

Yea, they have lots of protection. Don't get too paranoid about that kind of stuff, I know that it happens but don't get worked up about it. P.S. what level are you playing at..?

I doubt there are many mass marketed shoulder pads with hard chest plates.

Don't worry about it... it's a freak accident and one not likely to happen to most people...

Sorry for the megabump buy but does anyone know if these can still be purchased new? I would love to use these, the 8000 Defenders or the 6000s now that I am getting back in to playing. I have Googled but have not come up with anything.

Only luck with new product that's over 2 years old from launch is getting it at big internet place on closeout, or a LHS who still has some sort of stock. You're best bet is to call around if you are that into this product. Every year after production was stopped the harder it is to find something, and if its in a popular size its even harder. Good luck, but most likely no, there is no stock left. Most likely find some slightly used at PIAS, but again, you're gonna have to call around.

That's what I figured. I managd to luck into a pair of Pro Tacks skates on eBay just by searching and I will do the same for these. Thanks for the reply.

I just wanted to ask if anyone knows any more places to search? I have tried Google, Yahoo (these two have lead me to HockeyGalore, Hockey1, Hockey.us etc), Perani's, eBay, Kijiji, selected craiglist, pro shops in Rochester (NY) and the two Rochester area Play It Again Sports. I know its going to be a more difficult pad to find but does anyone have any other sites I could check out?

Im actually open to the Vaper 8, Vapor 10, 6000, 8000 Lightspeed or 8000 Defender which all predate Nike/Bauer.

These are the updated model of the old lightspeeds. May be worth a look.
