Where To Cut STick

Recommended Posts

I found a CCM Vector V120 Shaft Laying around at the rink so I decided to pick it up. Its broken at the blade and I want to put one of my extra synthesis blades into it. Where should I cut on the shaft so that the blade fits in properly. Thanks!

If you are unsure, gradually cut the shaft and do a trial and error procedure... I'm not very familiar with where to cut on this stick so that's what I would suggest.

thats funny, i found a V120 in the garbage at my local rink like 3 weeks after it hit the stores. Some guy broke the end of the blade and just chucked it. I ran into the same problem you did. I kept cuttin gradually, but i still couldn't fit my SI core modano in there, even after shaving off all the glue and even taking the paint off the hosel of the blade. I ended up just sticking it in the opposite end. If i cut it any more than i did it would have been too short (I stopped an inch below the "M" on the ccm logo) I used it upside down until i snapped the shaft in half, which also coincidentally just happened to me tonight. I know its not favorable to flip it, but i used it like that up until tonight and never had any problem getting off shots. I figured it was a free shaft, so what the hell.

if you want, seeing as the stick is shot now, i can keep on cutting it to see just how far you have to go. I'll do it tomorrow and get back to you asap on it.

my buddy broke his 110... and he cut it really low and it worked...

but i heard someone at my LHS say that it shouldn't be done with a 120

Is the V120 an actual one-piece? I mean, come to think of it, I don't recall seeing the V120 shafts (but do remember seeing the V110 shafts)....

REGARDLESS, it can still likely be done. With the old Busch sticks, I was able to do it (although, it required using a Jr blade instead of a tapered). Just a matter of patience. I'd use a old Tflex shaft (or whatever tapered shaft you may have around) as a guide. Hold it up next to the shaft and mark where the end of the tapered shaft matches, dimension wise, to the broken V120. Then, cut 1 inch lower, start augering/boring out the crap inside, and work your way up the shaft until the tapered blade fits.

they do make 120 shafts in C and T.

ccm puts aramid in the corners of the shaft for durability purposes.

you are going to need to file off the corners of your blade.

right at the "E" in patent pending.....Or find the fuse point (the little line where the blade goes into the shaft) cut there, but youll have to do a hell of a lot of fileing
