SLAPSHOT - THE MOVIE

With the wide variety of ages on the board, it made me curious. How many posters have seen the original movie? Younger posters might not "get" it, as it may not have held up well over time. SO, have you seen it? If so, what'd you think?

Among the few hockey-related movies that are out, I'd call this a classic mainly because of the popularity and name-value. There's TONS of hockey players out there who've never heard of "Youngblood" or "Mystery, Alaska" (both good movies in my opinion). But the quotes from Slapshot will live on in infamy in every lockerroom around the country.

The Hanson brothers were all pretty good minor league players in their day. Only one was actually named Hanson in real life. The other two were actually brothers Jeff and ??? Carlson is their name.

Dave Hanson's son, Christian, is the leading scorer for Tri-City in the USHL. He's a 6'3" center and headed to Notre Dame next year.

I love that movie.

He looks like a big one: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdispla...pid%5B%5D=73824

He'll have to fill out his frame a bit (6ft 3, but "only" 190?)

I love the movie...and in the past year had the opportunity to play in a charity 3 on 3 tournament, where each team got a "celebrity" player. My team had Bernie Nicholls playing with us, but even more of a thrill, Paul D'Amato a.k.a. Tim "Dr Hook" McCracken was our coach. Paul was the nicest, most down to earth guy, and he told us stories about filming the movie. He wore his Syracuse Bulldogs jersey behind our bench. He is a real character, and still has long hair, and wears earrings.

saw it the first time in italian with my dad when i was really young. after that my sister took a vhs copy in canada many years ago, and i saw it many times. i don't know exactly how many, but i nearly memorized all the speech... fantastic. any other words are meaningless.

but the italian translation is crap, my brother is right! only in the english version is really funny.

In my best french accent...

"Icing appen when the puck come down, bang, before the udder guys, nobody there. My hand come up and play stop and den start up again."

"And you go sit in the box, two minute, by yourself, and you feel shame, but then you get free."
