Accord 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2005 I'm sure some of you have heard that EA has bought out ESPN so all of their knowledge and technologies will be incorporated with the next NHL game. That statement is a little misleading. EA bought the ESPN license, and will incorporate it into their games in 2007 (branding, score overlays, announcers). The ESPN hockey game was made by Visual Concepts (subbed to Kush), and Visual Concepts was bought by Take Two games. Take Two games has started a sports division under the brand name 2K games. They will be doing this years sequel to ESPN 2K5, I believe calling it simply NHL Hockey 2K6. Visual Concepts has one more year of the ESPN license, so it will probably still be "in game", but they won't be advertising it, since EA will be getting the ESPN branding the following year.chris Nice avi...i think everyone at MSH should do one of themself South Park style. As far as the games...I've been addicted to NHL 2004 (PC) for almost a year now...played 3 full seasons, with three different rosters and won the Cup all 3 times. Previously I had NHL Powerplay '98 / NHL '97 & NHL 2002. Won the Cup in all of them. I'd love to have a PS2...becasue I think the game owuld be even better on that. I think I've worn out my second Controller...the Left Axis doesn't work really well, unless you've got "Speed Burst" pushed. I've got one of those Mad Catz PS2 Controllers with a PS2-USB Adaptor. Trust me, I own a PS2 and both NHL 2005 and NHL 2004 on both the PS2 and PC and I can tell you right now, the PC versions are a thousand times better than console version. The commentary, the graphics, the gameplay, the ability to tweak the game to be more realistic, etc. is all so much better on the PC and the differences are night and day.I will never buy another EA sports console game because the PC versions are just so much better in every way. Dave 1 Report post Posted March 3, 2005 ...and NHL 2006 is supposed to be a completely brand new game, not just an improvement on last year's. The "completely new thing" issue is the root of the disaster we've seen with the NHL series over the last years: Each year they redo the frontend from scratch. The on-ice game itself hardly undergoes revolutionary development.Re-doing the frontend (menus, everything aside from the on-ice game) from scratch every year is the reason why they are so damn buggy. I've named a number of bugs in an older thread about NHL05. This would not happen if they just started to build ONE solid frontend with user-friendly and accessible interfaces and THEN re-use the same basis every year, improving it slightly and maybe skinning it differently.I'd prefer having an evolutionary front-end that improves every year instead of heaving a revolutionary "from scratch" one every year that just brings new and different bugs year after year after year. mack 44 Report post Posted March 3, 2005 I'm curious to see the DNA thing be implemented, but after putting in '05 last night I don't know if that'd be enough to sway me to get any new model.

mack 44 Report post Posted March 3, 2005 I still haven't seen them in stores though. Checked Best Buy and they still only have the old Midway games.
Jbone 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2005 It would be neat if they came out with an AHL 2006. Or any year for that matter.
Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted March 4, 2005 I heard there is an attachment for one of the NHL games to make them all OHL players. It's kind've cool, my friend had a picture of himself in the game on MSN.
A_Steeves12 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2005 i think they should make it AHL, OHL, WHL, or QMJHL '06 . but no matter what they put out i think they'll have a hard time selling it and when the NHL comes back i think they will still have problems sell the game.
