Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 I ended up getting 2 virus's and they came up on my Virus scan immediately. Couldn't delete them so I got a little help from the Virus scan site, and I've ran searches and disk defrags and everything i can think of. I cannot find the Virus's so I assume they are gone. Nothing weird is going on with the computer, except whenever I start my computer it goes to a weird seach engine. It's not a huge deal, but it's kind've tedious to do it every time I restart my computer. When I had the virus is logged onto a Porn search engine, but now it's logging onto a normal search engine. Any ideas? Is there a way to permantley fix the site I log onto other than Tools - Internet options.. etc.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 go to Tools and set it that way. If you're on the page you want to use, click "use current"
Vapor 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 go to Tools and set it that way. If you're on the page you want to use, click "use current" That wont do it. Most virus' will reset it each time that the browser is rerun. The virus was most likely quarentined. But update your virus definitions, and cross your fingers. I would use Mozilla FireFox, much less likely to be hijacked. OR, get a mac :)
Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 Thats what I've been doing, sorry I couldn't word what I was doing better. Every time I do that, it'll reset once I restart my computer.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 probably made a registry entry. If you are comfortable messing around search for the address in your registry and delete any key with the address in it.
Vapor 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 Heres some advice....go to start, run, type regedit, and navigate to the HKEY__LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWEAR\MICRSOFT\INTERNET_EXPLORER\MAIN folder. Under the value Default_Page_URL change the value data to about:blank if you want a blank page, or whatevery you want the url to be. ALSO change the start page to whatever you would like. Vapor 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 If its a virus, this may not help it, youd have to look for the actual bot... and where that would be... it matters what the virus is, if it is one.

Guest phillyfan Report post Posted April 18, 2004 There has been a few viruses going around, I've been the victim of a few. Norton picked them up and I quarantined the files, but there is still something wrong, my computer has slowed greatly as of recent, I may have to have my hard drive looked at. One of the viruses was the RPC Doom Virus I believe.
BruinsFanRI 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 The search engine thing could be related to a spyware/adware app on your machine. Virus scanners don't detect these (although I think the new version of McAfee does). Download & run a program like "AdAware" (it's free):http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10214379.html?tag=lst-0-8This will clean that type of junk off your machine. You'll be surprised how much crap gets loaded on your machine that you don't want. Be sure to "check for updates" (An option in the program) to ensure that you have the latest signature file. Run a full scan & when the scan is complete select all objects (Right click on one the objects to get the "select all" option) and let the program remove them. Hope that helps....
