ITECH HX50 vs. OAKLEY FLIP UP VISOR

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am looking for a optically correct visor. I've been using the old ITECH flip up visors. The two I'm looking at is the ITECH HX50 Half Visor (replaceable) and the OAKLEYS visor (flip up). The ITECH HX50 doesn't look bad but I'm afraid it might be too bulky or heavy compared to the OAKLEYS. Anyone have any reviews on this?

Also I have a BAUER 4000 M helmet and I heard Oakley's don't fit that well. My preference is lightness and flip-ups only.

Thanks.

When I was using a visor (Oakley pro straight) it fit fine on my Bauer 4000M. I think it's mainly the large 4000 that guys have visor fitting issues with.

Are you using the OAKLEY straight cut with the vents? It seems like the only real flip-up visor for OAKLEY are the Aviator ones with vents. It has a slot on the side for straps but if get the OAKLEY Straight Cut with vents, it doesn't have the slots for the straps. Very weird.

I tried the Oakely flip up (Med, with my bauer 5000 med.) and it fogged horribly even with Fog Zero. I gave it to my brother (CCM Large) and he has no problems. For what it's worth I currently use the Itech pro wave and no fogging.

i use the HX50 half visor with a Bauer 4000 m and it suits me fine. Prior to that i used one of those plastic Itech visors (RBE i think) and there wasn't that much of a weight difference when i switched to the hx50s. I'm pretty sure that the oakleys are lighter than the hx50s but personally i don't mind the extra weight as you can probably adjust to it.

Nopes, not at all. Coming from the old visor i used to use i didn't have to worry about it fogging up or anything.

just the weight of it on your head wouldnt be that bad as long as it didnt cause your helmet to be front heavy and tip down.

That's the complaint I have heard most about it.

Actually a couple of guys on my team have the same visor and they've experienced that. Maybe it's just their helmet isn't fitted on correctly but i've yet to encounter it myself.

But if it does happen then i guess it's a reasonable trade off because you can replace the visor. It's already saved me some money as I've had to replace my visor due to a puck hitting and cracking it.

Well, good thing you were wearing a visor then! I don't think you can say "this is the best visor." I think it's pretty similar to helmet cages, and it just comes down to personal preference and how well you decide you are going to maintain the piece of equipment.

I use the Itech HX50 visor and have no complaints. Mind you, my helmet (an Itech HC95) fits correctly -- meaning it's snug so it doesn't come down regardless of what's attached to the front of it.

I like the HX50 visor. Optically, it's fine. And the quick release makes it easy to clean and apply anti-fog. It's also cheaper than the Oakley and your money goes to a company that is very involved in hockey.

Cheers,

JJ

Actually this weekend i played hockey and the front part of my helmet started to dip down. Not to the point where it covered my eyes, but nevertheless it still dipped down.

i have the 4000 M with the Hx-50 visor and I like it a lot. Replacements are really cheap as you can get like 2 for $50 Can or I've seen some places with $40. Quality is pretty much the same as the oakley for just the visor but a lot cheaper. Only downside is the housings for the HX-50 which can add some weight which I see some of you guys are writing about. I noticed that the first couple of games but after a while, you don't even notice the weight as you quickly adjust to it.
