New Skates Came!

Recommended Posts

My new Mission S300s came today. I just can't tell if they are too big or not. I keep reading that my toes should just "feather" the end of the skate, and I assume that means lightly touch. My big toe touches the end of the skate when I first put them on, but when I kick my heel back and lace the skates up, they don't touch the end. Too long of skate? I know the experienced guys are probably rolling their eyes, but I just haven't been doing this long enough to know these things. My heel also moves a bit up and down, I don't know if it really slips or not, but it moves a little bit. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yep. Loosen the skate and kick in the toe. See how much space you have back there. That is how much space you will have in the front when your heel is locked in the back.

Hate to say it, but that's what happens when buying skates online or mail order. Had you gone to a LHS and got a proper fit, you wouldn't be here asking these questions.

BTW, sounds like they are too big.

From what I remember him saying, no LHS near him have any Mission skates.

I recall that as well. Sounds like they may be the right size, if he likes his skates slightly big. the big test I've found for a comfy fit, is stand up in them without them tied. If they feel just a bit small, and then feel fine when you tie them up, that sounds like a loose but ok fit. the other test is to slide your foot all the way forward without crunching your toes in the toe box, and see if you can gets a fingers width or more behind your heel. If you can fit the fingers width or more, then they are probably too big, if less then it becomes the personal preference issue

Hey Jimmy, as for your condescending crap, why post a reply if you don't have any contribution to make? Yes, as others have said, I am not fortunate enough to have a LHS that carries Mission skates, let alone any skates remotely in my size. My local hockey rink simply orders skates that you want from Hockey Monkey, which I will not be any part of. I may order the size 10 and send back the one that doesn't fit the best. Trust me, I wish this wasn't how I had to purchase equipment, because it does suck.

Y'know not everybody has a fully stocked hockey store nearby.

I got them from Epuck, and they did not sharpen them, so returning them shouldn't be a big deal. Just a bummer to have to wait another week.

It's good you bought them from EPuck because they're really good about things like this and there shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry, you didn't say in your post any details of where you got your skates or about not having a LHS. Had I know that, I wouldn't have been so harsh. Just trying to make a point about buying skates by mail, the pitfalls. I no longer will sell skates by mail. Too many times they end up coming back.

And I do believe I said I thought they were to big.

Hey try putting in a thicker insole, you should notice a difference for sure, the skate will fit much better. But don't get something way too thick because then your hell will be too high up.

No problem, I am just very frustrated. Like I said, it truly does suck having to purchase skates this way and I wish I didn't have to, but I don't know what else to do.

Suck up the return shipping charges and return them for the correct size. I wouldn't try to jury rig them.

A thicker insole won't reduce the length of the boot.
