Platinum Breakaway program with TOTALHOCKEY.net

Recommended Posts

Hello I was just wondering if anyone has the Platinum Breakaway program with Totalhockey.net . I am looking to buy some skates from them and was wondering if someone that has it would be willing to order them for me using the discount program. I would pay 20.00 just for ordering. Email me at matt_opiela@yahoo.ca

Thanks

What skates are you looking to get?

I am looking to get the RBk 8k's in a size 6 since its only one of the few stores that has the size. To sign up for the program is 40.00 USD but you get 20% off, meaning you get 80.00 USD off so the skates end up being 359.99. But you also collect points which you can redeem for credit on the site (2000 or 3000 points is 10.00 USD, and for this skate you get about 3500 points), which I won't use and I might as well give them to someone who has the program account with them. Can you help ?

Wow, first they rip off the LHS by trting on the skates there, then they rip off the internet sites by cheating on the discount programs. Have you no shame.

Buy into the discount program yourself instead of stealing from them. Jeeez!

First of all I am not ripping of my LHS, as far as I am concerned they are the ones who don't have my size. And second of all read the whole post, I am not ripping anyone off, I am just asking if someone is part of their program, becuase you get reward points from them when you buy stuff, and if I buy the program I will only use it that one time, and I'd rather have someone make use of the points, that is all, and I am willing to pay 20.00 USD for someone who would order them for me.

sounds like jimmy is the owner of a floundering LHS

He does have a valid point about the lengths some poeple will go to save a couple bucks.

If you are desperate to get them, I'm sure your LHS will order you a pair. At least then your baking would be free, and your first sharpening.

I read your whole post, you don't want to pay the $40 to join the program yourself, you want to use someone elses, that's ripping off the web site store, plain and simple.

Actually, my store is doing very well. I just get upset at people stealing from hard working folks, be it LHS's or internet stores. Is there something wrong with that?

What exactly is wrong with that. Why should I get it if someone else has it and is willing to buy my skates, they get the points, I pay them and the store gets the sale. Trust me I think the store would not offer the discount if they didn't make a profit on it. And maybe if hockey stuff wasn't so ridicoulsly overpriced, people wouldn't be looking to save extra money like I am now. Either way if none has this program I'll get it my self.

Nice guys don't always win, it sucks, but it's life.

If you really wanted to help the site, you should tell them to change thier rewards system. Besides, there's nothing wrong with this, the internet store is glad to sell stuff because they are obviously making a profit reguardless.

I'm part of Totalhockey.net's breakaway program and it's great. I don't understand why you would not want to use the free money they offer in this program.

Because I won't use it ever again. The skates is the only thing I need. I usually don't buy my stuff from the USA becuase of crazy customs since I live in Canada.

In regards to equipment being expensive, that is not the fault of the retailer. That is the manufacturer charging large wholesale prices and I would assume they set a retail price as well. From what I understand, the markup on high end stuff is not that much.

Margins on hockey equipment are very thin compared to most other retail products.

i can see mattopiela's point to why he would want someone to order the skates for him so the points dont go to waste ,but i think he should just order the skates and forget all about the program.....also maybe his lhs wont order them and who cares about whether he buys from an online retailer or lhs its his money

...who cares about whether he buys from an online retailer or lhs its his money

Every time you place an order online, it's another nail in the coffin of your LHS.

I don't think we have to worry about that in my area, all of the stores here are doing great, hockey is huge here in Ottawa and there is only about 4 stores that have a good selection, plus they don't sell just hockey stuff, but baseball, ringette stuff as well a lot of them also sell bikes and I think thats the scenario for most shops that sell hockey stuff. I don't think I have ever been to a store that sells just hockey stuff. ;)

The web site has a promotion and the idea it to get people to but into the program.. They make money on the program fees. If only one person buys into the program, and he cheats and shares with all his friends, they only make money on him. The equipment price is reduced but the final profit is based on how many program sales they have. They may even be using the program money as seed money to buy new stock. I liken it to buying a season pass for six flags, then letting all your friends use it. That's cheating/stealing.

I sell discount sharpening passes in my store under the same princible. They are uses to build loyalty, and the profits for seed money, etc. They are not for folks to share with their friends. If their friends want to sacve on sharpening, they have to buy their own pass. That's the honest thing to do.
