help me pick out a new skate

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I was looking for a new pair of skates to upgrade from my mission D1. it's either going to be CCM's PF10's or Mission 950 and i was wondering if i could get some feedback from you guys. I held the 950's in a local hockey shop and it was mad light compared to my D1's that weights a brick which i haven't noticed before i held the 950's. I haven't heard much about the PF10's but i like their look. I play mostly D but i pich in A LOT so i'm really the 3rd forward. I'm a very good skater that values acceleration and mobility over top speed (need to make quick turn around for all the times i pich in at the wrong times). oh and i'm 5'11 180.

thanks

I've had the 750's (not quite as light I know), and am currently in PF10's. I find both skates to be comfy, but the CCM's are significantly stiffer. You'd really have to try both on, but know the PF10's are slightly narrower in the mid foot area than the other CCM skates this yr, at least initially until you get them worked in.

which one would be better for someone who has very flat feet? most of the time i had to add extra padding to the front in order to even out the boot but it's not very good cause it moves around during the game.

The CCM boots for this year tend to be a tiny bit wider then the boots in the past. You can't got wrong with either skate, but I'd recommend the PF10's. both skates are wicked light.

I wear a size 11-11.5 shoe. I have the PF8's, and at first I got an 11, wayy to big. Then moved to a 10 which fits nice. I probbly could of went a half a size smaller but thats pushing it. Best thing to do would be to try them both on at your LHS. And if they dont have them there try a fit tool (almost every online retailer has one of them now).

I wear a 10 shoe and I'm in 8.5 CCM. The PF10's are fantastic, I can say enough good things about this years line-up, and enough bad about last yr so I'm definitely not a blind "it's CCM, so it must be good". I have a size 10E foot that is pretty flat, and the PF10's feel good in the arch. The Missions are all about comfort this yr, but as I said, the boots are soft all over and felt like a liability when I'd go to cut or take a hard step.

Im currently making the same decision. i think im going to go for the CCM PF10's because ive had problems with the durability of mission skates in the past. Ive had 2 pairs of missions that have had the sole break away from the rest of the boot, (ill post pics when i can get some). one of these bneing the D1's. and im only 16 (15 at the time of breaking them, and play in England, so its not like im huge and beat the hell out of them. and if i recall correctly the CCM's are infact lighter. i heard they were 1000g per skate and the 950's were 1150. is this correct? what do people with these skates think?

YAY! i just ordered my PF10's online! i'll post pics when i get them in. i was able to get them for 355 US from a guy (tferraro@truth.com) who sells a lot of stuff of Ebay and only $12 shipping to canada! You guys should check him out if you want cheap skates... i know he also sells the 950's for 345 US. but ya i was suprised at how heavy my D1's were after i held the 950's at a local shop. at the time i didn't think it was that light mainly because i've been playing nothing but ice for the last few months but when i cleaned my D1's the other night i was shocked. i haven't had any problems with my last two mission skates (D1 and RPM) though but then again i'm very good with my skates and try my best to make as little stops as i can which i guess is hardest on the skate itself... plus it helps with the wheels.

Ah...too bad I didn't see this thread earlier. I went from d1s to he950s and it's amazing. I haven't had any problems with mine, nor has anyone I know who uses them. But I guess it's the squeeky wheel that gets the grease, you'll never hear people speaking up about how much their (and the majority's) skates aren't acting up.

i don't think you can go wrong with either model... i just liked the CCM because of the wheels and i've heard nothing but good things about the boot itself. i think the good thing about these two top of the line skates is that there is almost no way they can make it very much lighter next year... i've always been buying new skates every year to either get lighter or because of some stupid gimic (mission RPM) but i can see myself with the PF10's for at least a few years.

I usually find myself buying the new technology, but I don't buy it just because it's the new thing really. It's just skates don't last longer than 10-12 months for me.

i think i'm just lucky with my skates or something... i play in a high tier here but i almost never get pucks or sticks to the skate so by the end of the year my skates could pass for new if you don't count any of the marks, those plastic things on the side of the skate for when you turn hard or the wheels.
