My Mission S500 Review

Recommended Posts

I had a chance to get back on the ice after a 6 month layoff, so after 3 skates i finally gathered enought of en opinion to write a review, JR should post it soon

I don't know If I'm going to keep playing hockey, my injury, the decline in hockey equipment that I'm use to wearing and the high prices of skates and sticks that seem to not last like they use to has turned me off from the game as a player... I will make a decision when the new Mission line hits stores hopefully somewhere in Atlanta GA. As for the skates, I think I will give them to a player I coach that his parents can't really afford the high prices of gear and the cost of being on a travel team, my journey is ending but at the age of 13, his is just beginning…

Thank you Justin

My post

Intro

As most of you know, I had allot of problems with Graf skates, for those who don't know, heres the post Graf Problem Following this, Justin Hoffman from Mission kindly offered me a brand new pair of S500's to replace my faulty pair of 703's (Nicest thing something has ever done for me). Before receiving the Missions, I started feeling back pain and shooting pain down my leg, this was caused by a herniated disk as what I think is a result of skating on the crooked and modified "Ghetto Style" warranty work by Graf Canada. So after six months of healing and doctor’s treatment and a winter with basically no hockey to watch, I'm back on the Ice for some light skating, no contact or real game action yet...

Boot

Fist thing I have to say is the construction of this boot is top notch, coming from Graf product for five years, you get use to skates looking crooked and things no being exactly strait or the holders not being flush, this skate is so well built, you almost feel like putting em up as a decorative piece in you’re home 11/10

Fit

First off, I usually wear no sox in skates but after heat molding these bad boys, I noticed that they got like a half size bigger so now without sox they feel a little too long. The E with is great, no unreasonable pain, for those who want to jump from Graf to Mission, I was in a R. If you buy these, you might want to get the snuggest you can go with before heat molding. They are not restrictive at all in terms of movement but I will need to replace the tongue like Joe Thornton does cause I hate the new style ones like the Vectors and Easton’s (I like it old school) 9/10

Blade/Holder

The PITCH system is great, Mission always wants the user to have the option and at the price skates sell, I think that it should be the standard, I have Vibe 2 holder on my rollers and I also appreciate that aspect, I had problems with adjusting them at first but once I figured in out, I was good (I read the manual  ) not what I'm use to but great and very innovative. 10/10

Protection

No games played so no shots taken but they feel strong, they have to be more protective then my old skates. N/A

Weight

Lighter than my old skates and these don't seem to retain water so... 9/10

Durability

I only skated 3 times on em, about 6 hours and they feel broken in, they look like they will keep there stiffness since after a 2 hour session, they don't get soft or retain water witch was a big problem with you know who.... N/A

Conclusion

I've been skating in the same thing for the past six years and I'm one of the old school guys that refuse to change my old stuff, that being said, I'm having a hard time adjusting to a new pair partly due to the fact that I'm coming back from injury and my skating and hockey skill as a hole is really not up to my usual standards, so my review of these skates can be subjective... What I do know is that Mission is a first class product and fist class in customer support. Justin Hoffman took it upon himself to fix a problem that was not his and for that I am for ever in dept (He did what Graf should have done instead of drilling my skate). I was already using there Roller Hockey skates and before I got hurt, I purchased a pair of M1 Gloves and M2 pants and I will continue to turn to a company who supports the customer like Mission does and that constantly tries to give the player alternatives and in turn the edge on the competition...

I think he was eferring to his intentions to give the skates to a player he coaches that is not as well off as his teamates, if he decided to quit hockey

That's a very thoughtful and generous decision. But I hate to say that it might look as if you were picking favourites on the team by giving him a pair of skates. I commend your intentions and you are in every way doing the right thing, but i think the other players may become jealous and accuse the coach of favouring certain kids. Hopefully they will be able to see that he is need of a new pair of skates and not react immaturely.

i'm starting to know the parents well so i was thinking of giving it to them and ask them to not tell the kid...

I got to find miself something to skate in first... i'm only an assistant coach and my main duty is goalie coach so being on skates is kind of a must...

My LHS does not sell Ice Hockey Mission skates, they only sell roller hockey and all the equipment except helmets for some reason...

So My choices are, Bauer (Just don't fit my feet) Vectors (nice but to loose around the ankles) Synergys (Just don't like em, to restrictive and expensive)

or they do Graf on order since they don't have enought volume tosell and I refuce after my last experience to give those ass holes my hard earned money plus the fact that I heard that they have problems with the G series. I guess that if i wan to skate in a game, I will have to step on my ego and give Graf my money or go on a road trip to the closest hockey shop that has missions and hope they have something that fits similar...

Forget web buying, i refuse to buy skates that way, that's also kills the hockey market, if we keep buying on the web, LHS will stop holding stock in store and thats what got me in this mess in the first place...

From what i understand, the closest stores outside on Atlanta are Florida :(

Hey djinferno,Where in Atlanta are you ??? I remember a few years ago when I was down there in Alpharetta I was at the COOLER ,I was there with our roller hockey team at the NARCh Tourney... And thats when the Missin Ice gear hit the Market.Try there, they had Ice skates then.I know its been a few years since I been down there. But just a thought.Who knows you might even be playing in that rink for all I know. If not.Good luck. I know myself,I am going to see my buddy here (Alyn McCauley) when we start playing baseball next week and ask him if he is going to be getting the New L7,and if he doesn't like them to pass them over.We are the same size, and I actually brought them to his attention back during the winter when he was out skating with the JR hockey team here in his home town that I work with. Anyway,Enough gabbing for me. Good luck. And Justin,Your a good man for the things you do.As is your company. Tim was good to me,As is Craig and of course your boss Mike,Great guy,and great company.
