they are on that way for a reason. HECC and CSA both test them like this. if you lower the cage and the clip snaps your liable for all the damages. Such as happened in BC a few years back. player lowered the clips checked from behind cage came off and crushed his orbital bones. left with severe brain damage. The player was suspended for a year for the cross check the player hit has been in care since the hit. I have said this before dont alter the construction find a cage and helmet combo that work. I'm sure there is one out there.

That's the irony of the white skate. You get them because they look cool only to have them look like hot garbage after a few months.

Meh, I've always thought white trim/uppers can look cool when done right (Think Micron Air 90's. I wanted a pair of Christian Dube's white trimmed 952's back in the day. I've seen some True skates at the NHL level that have just the top area of faux leather done in white- looks good. The Graf "Great White" models were just too white.

Have you ever looked at a hockey skate that has been used.....for hockey? They actually get scuffed, marked, scratched, dirty. Black is practical and will look good longest. Do you know what a white skate would look like after a month's use? Probably the same reason you don't see too many all white tires on cars.

The nearest ice rink, I could walk to in 10 minutes or so, and do so to get my skates done. The rink I typically skate (when healthy) at is a 15-20 minute drive at that time of day (0700 on a Saturday). I happen to live in an area (metro Boston) where you can't swing a cat and not hit a rink. Do they all have adult hockey times? No, but they all absolutely host kids programs. I would prefer to travel a half hour at most. I have to get there, get dressed, play, get undressed, and get home. For a 9pm session/game, more than that is simply not worth it for me. However, as noted, I have the luxury of many, many rinks in that 30 minute radius. Before I had a car, I was willing to travel further because the rink had to be transit or foot accessible (with gear). The year I learned to play, it took me nearly 2 hours to get to the rink. Two buses and a half-mile walk. Glad I don't have to do that anymore.

My neurosurgeon pulled some major strings and I ended up having my surgery yesterday! I am in for a lengthy recovery before I can get back to fun things like hockey, but I'm doing pretty well, sticking to the postop directions. Just glad to have the pressure off the nerves at last.
