  1. VH JR Custom w Edge holder and LS3 steel $709 cdn Bauer 1X JR Off-the-Shelf w Edge holder and LS4 steel ~$649 cdn Bauer MX3 JR Off-the-Shelf w Edge holder and Fusion steel ~$599 cdn CCM Jetspeed Off-the-Shelf ~$499 cdn For a custom skate, I'd say the price isn't too much more than a 1X or MX3 - perhaps the Jetspeed is a bit different. Depends what you're looking for...
  2. I'm thinking the expansion into the junior market, and junior pricing for custom skates is a solid move for VH. It really opens up options for younger players, or adult men and women with smaller feet looking for customs or a better fitting skate. Compared to the top of the line non-custom skates from other brands, most people I've spoken with say it's almost a no-brainer to get the VH customs if they're already making the financial commitment to the top of the line, off-the-shelf boot.
  3. I'm starting to wonder how many of the portable models have similar issues. I definitely have some vibration/play in my professional portable (as compared to my fixed 3-head machine) - but to me it's still within acceptable tolerance and I can still get a great sharpen and finish out of it. I do find that I have to try harder to get a proper finish with my portable - but that is like comparing apples to oranges in regards to speed, power, spinners vs. single-point diamond, etc.
  4. That's an odd pattern on your stone... It's not rubbing on anything anywhere while spinning? Even with wobble or an uneven stone, at the speed that it spins, you'd assume that your pressure would be contacting different points at the wheel as it rotates to "blend" that pattern in. I haven't looked back in time to see if this has been answered, but have you asked Blackstone about it or shown them the pattern?
  5. You mean the line on the wheel kind of waves up and down vertically as you spin the wheel with your hand or as it spins down after turning off power? Typically, whenever I've had this problem, my spinner has been worn, and it seems to happen more frequently with our FBV spinners as opposed to ROH. It's also happened when I've had a wheel that hasn't been formed/manufactured properly - but those were cheaper wheels from a non-OEM source.
  6. Yeah, that's not too nice. Is that an attempt after the feedback you've received from us above? To me, if you're doing the right pressure, the right speed, a slow, consistent final pass, you shouldn't have this issue unless your spinner is worn or not dressing properly, or there's a stone issue. It also looks like you might be getting a bit of burning/overheating - but it's hard to tell from the picture. Is your spinner "spinning" when you're dressing. Or is it stuck on a spot that has maybe worn down?
  7. A bit more pressure. A bit slower, more consistent passes. Check to see if your spinners are gunking up with any residue from the wheel. Ensure your spinner caps are hand-tight and not too loose. All of those have been things that have caused issues like that in the past.
  8. Oh, I read that wrong. Thought you were saying MLX website was back. LOL
  9. Waxed laces on my VH's and every pair prior to them.
  10. Just ask Rob. Depends if you want new toe cap and new JR pricing or old toe cap and senior pricing.
  11. Posting from club poolside in Vegas. Long winter spent in a rink last year and coming up soon. Some 36 degree Celcius (I know, convert it!) sun is a bit different from Canada! It's a win!
  12. It's flexible.... But I don't know if the degree of flexibility would be same as mako. It isn't articulated. It's 1 piece. Feels good on leg. I wouldn't say it's angled forward... Unless it was installed differently or the boot was formed at an angle.
  13. The way I see it - for any given game or ice time I have at least 100g or more of extra food or "beverage" in my stomach anyways! For a bigger guy myself, I don't see the weight of equipment as being a huge issue (within reason), but evidently it's different for other players.
  14. That's just it. The skate you were in may have been larger because it was compensating in areas and giving an improper fit. The VH will have a lot more wrap, all around the foot, fit closer, and have less wasted space. Congrats on your new jets!
  15. Junior is everything up to and including size 5.5 - so the rough equivalent of a 252mm measurement or less.
  16. I don't know about the trademarks or why they aren't using a screw system - but the copper seems to hold them on well, and also makes changing the tendon guards quite easy. Perhaps not end-user easy, but easy for a shop. They're always evolving the design, and perhaps this will be an area that will be modified in the future. The little piece of material covering the copper backing on the new boot style may come off, but it won't impact the integrity of the copper or the tendon guard. It can be glued back on, or left off.
  17. Yes, it's fine - maybe not "ideal", but workable... I would suggest a single line, maybe double or overstrike in a few places where it's harder to trace (like toes and around heel), but I wouldn't worry about these tracings, especially with the measurements that accompany them...
  18. Greyskull, those aren't too much of a nightmare!
  19. The integrated shot blockers are actually known as "enhanced impact protection". It's additional composite layering into the boot itself, on the inside - not visible or specifically palpable from the outside ... Because of this, the boot becomes slightly stiffer and it adds an additional 30 grams, on average.
  20. Exactly that. I've had players go from a size 9 off-the-shelf skate that they were fitted in incorrectly, down to the equivalent of a VH 7 or 8. What you're wearing now is not overly important, unless you're between sizes for holders and steel and would prefer oversized 272 instead of 263. The tracings and measurements will get you the correct size.
  21. Definitely go with the new 1-piece tendon guard. It is new and improved over the old design, is easier to replace (should it break), and feels a lot better on the leg, especially after baking. I agree with the options that you've chosen - they're all good picks.
  22. Edit - Sorry didn't see that there was another page. OR answered my question about shoe horn usage. And no, after baking there's no need to use the shoe horn each time. Bdb94 - It's best to have someone else do the tracing for you to get the proper angle. You're looking for a slight slant inward to the foot throughout the entire foot, including the arch. If you're doing it properly you should have a fairly good approximation of your foot shape. There is a margin of error allowed and considered. Always a bit better to do the tracing a bit snugger than loose, if that makes sense.
  23. Nice order, greyskull. Be sure to post some pictures when they're done! That's a big skate!
  24. I think a few things will separate VH from the Verbero skates. This will put them into a different "range" as far as purchasing decisions go. - The Verbero skate is not custom. They are offering an array of senior sizes from 6 to 11 (with half sizes), and only in a single width (D). - The Verbero skate appears to be using a proprietary holder and runner. I haven't seen them in person or in action, but from a replacement standpoint and possibly a durability concern, I'd rather have a Bauer, CCM, Easton or even Graf runner on my "elite" skates. - A "button" tongue also causes me concern from a durability prospective. Again, haven't seen it in person, but buttons are a bit finicky as soon as they get hit, bent or slightly damaged. I'd have to see it. The skate has a similar aesthetic look with the carbon, but aside from that departs in it's own direction.
