  1. I thought I wrote back to this yesterday, but I guess I never posted. No roller blade is ever gonna let you use edges like ice - its literally impossible. With both you get the rockered feel of a skate, which feels more like ice, but nothing is different with the edges. AFAIK the only way to practice your edges on ice - is by skating on ice.
  2. Im thinking about doing the same. I emailed them yesterday and will probably order them tomorrow if its possible. I read a few of your other posts, and it seems that youre really liking the marsblade, but im wondering if you have compared it to sprungs? I like the concept of the marsblade more than sprungs, but from researching posts around here, sprungs seem to be more proven (makes sense since marsblade is pretty new compared to sprungs). At this point, im willing to do anything to help me switch between roller and ice without having so much time to re-adjust. I honestly might just end up getting both, and then seeing which I like better, and then selling the other. Will it kill my skates to have that many different holes on bottom (from 3 different holders/chassis)? Another thing that was mentioned here is the warranty on marsblade compared to sprungs. From looking at how both are made, I would expect marsblade to be more durable, but I dont think Ive heard anything about what the warranty period is, or will be. And hopefully if there is one, Ill still be covered even if I order from the swedish site. Lemme know what you think.
  3. Good to hear about the bump fix. This is what I figured would be the solution - pretty much the same as breaking in skates, but just a in a different section. I did my vapors at home, which came out really good (did them twice), but Im cautious to do it with expensive skates like the makos. Ill probably take it somewhere, but I wanna make sure I know what to do, so I can make sure that they are doing it right. I currently have them sitting in my cart, but Im having last minute second thoughts. I mean - I do like my vapors, and had I not tried on mako's - I would be getting x90's or x100's for my next pair of skates. Just worried about spending 500 and then not liking them when I actually get them on the ice. I thought I would have until June to make a decision on the switch.
  4. Yea, agreed. The only way I can see them dropping lower is in a few months, and who knows what sizes will be left. My only concern is that no one sells Easton skates around here. Ive heard that the bake temp is higher on these vs bauer skates. Do Easton skates need a special oven to bake in, or do other skate oven's have a temp that you can set? Im worried about someone at the pro shop around here just throwing them in for whatever time and temp bauers need to be baked at.
  5. Everyone on here has said June is a definite. Ive heard it from others too. HM just dropped the price of the current mako's to $599, and with the coupon it brings it down to $480. Really thinking about pulling the trigger on these, and hoping that the new ones arent that much different - and that I dont get the ankle rubbing problem. Its pretty much $480 for the current ones - and I get to have them now, or pay 750-850 for the mako II in June. For those who get the rubbing issue - are you wearing socks that come above the boot? I usually wear easton synergy socks - so I would think that just having those on would allow the boot to slide and not rub - and not give me problems (if I were someone who was affected by the mako bump). Im thinking $480 is a good price for essentially the same thing that Im 100% going to pay in June. Any reason to wait besides the mako bump problem? EDIT: Worst case scenario, if I really end up wanting the mako II in June, I can always convert these to roller skates :D What do you think?
  6. Glad that you're interested in our product! Yes, I totally understand your feedback and we are actually launching a package without wheels and bearings. It's being produced as we speak. The large package will be about 249 USD and without wheels and bearings it will be about 199 USD. We will launch a Ambassadors offer on the large package within a couple of weeks so keep your eyes out for that on our web and facebook. All the best //Per That sounds awesome. Can't wait to try them out.
  7. glad they got rid of the light heel. I was expecting to see this:
  8. You might wanna think about selling without the whole "package". $300 is a lot to spend, and most people would rather just use their own wheels/bearings. I know for myself I would have no use for the wheels. I use super hard wheels outdoors, super soft for sport court. The all purpose wheels are just a waste for me. I could not be any more interested in this product, since I have a really hard time switching back and forth. Currently doing some messing around with the pitch of my roller skates to try and get them to feel more like my ice skates. A product like this could be a life saver for me. So hopefully you release in the US soon and WITHOUT wheels and bearings.
  9. Just emailed Noicing to see if they could get my bauers to match the makos. Is Jimmy from Noicing or somewhere else? And I think im just gonna have them send me new steel. This way Ill have my old blades to go back to if I dont like the pitch, and I dont have to be without my skates for however long it takes.
  10. waiting for the mako 2 to come out. In the meantime, if I can get used to a higher pitch itll make transitioning easier once I finally do make the switch. I also want to get my rollerblades to match the pitch of my ice skates, because right now when I go back and forth between one and the other I have a lot of trouble. I know some of it is unavoidable because in general going back and forth is hard for people like me, but if I can at least get the pitch the same, it should make it easier.
  11. Why one over the other? I have no knowledge about either, but wouldnt it be easier to just make changes to the blade, rather than alter parts to the boot? (and cheaper, since profiling is supposedly 15-25, and lifts cost around 30?) Also by profiling, I can have 2 different blades, so if I really end up not liking it, I can just put my other blade in. Whats the disadvantage to profiling (besides maybe making the blade weaker because its skinnier?
  12. Ah, maybe thats what I remember hearing (about the LS3). And I remember hearing somewhere that it was over 100 bucks to get your skates profiled - not sure where I heard that either. Since im not getting makos yet, should I try profiling my vapors to match the makos to get an idea of what they're going to feel like when I do buy them? If I end up not liking it, can I go back, or would that be too much cutting on one blade? Maybe Ill just buy another blade, and get that profiled, so if I dont like it I can swap back to my old steel. And about the weight on the heels: I was asking because Ive been having trouble with my wheels wearing in the back faster than in the front (which ends up making the pitch negative) on my rollerblades. I want the pitch of my roller blades to match the pitch of my ice skates. Is this gonna fix the wearing problem or make it worse (if I add shims on my rollerblades to make them more aggressive)? If its gonna make it worse I can always use softer wheels in front when im using them on concrete (cant rotate to fix the problem because they are hi-lo).
  13. So makos have a 3 degree pitch? Or do they have a 3 degree pitch higher than normal? and is normal 0? And I thought vapors were a 12' vs 9' on makos? I thought I remember reading that when reading up on the makos? So really the only difference is the pitch then? Isnt there something else different that would force people to use a different sharpening when switching from vapors to makos? Isn't it at least 100+ to get skates profiled? And what would the different be between getting skates profiled, and getting shims? Also - when you say see if theyll profile them for free - wouldnt you want to try the stock profile before switching things up? I was thinking of just getting the pitch changed on my vapors, so I could see if I would like the different pitch of the makos - is that a good idea or no? Lastly, when you have a more aggresive skate like the mako - would that mean more weight is on the back or front of the skate? Obviously it would result of having you bend over more and in a stance ready to accelerate, but wouldnt that mean youll be using your heels more too?
  14. Is it possible to measure the pitch angle of what the mako skates are? Im waiting until June to get the mako 2's, but was thinking about changing the pitch of my Bauers in the mean time to see if I like the pitch of the mako skate. I dont wanna get them profiled since I know its kind of expensive, but I think shims might work for now. Besides pitch, would the 9ft radius be really noticeable vs the 12ft on vapors?
  15. Just wondering - which roller blades are closest to the mako's in terms of fit and stance? I'm trying to keep a consistent feel when switching back and forth, and might be getting new roller blades around the same time I get mako ice skates.
  16. I want to get these right now so badly, but I dont think its worth the risk considering the mako bump problem that will surely be addressed with the mako II's. Ive heard the rumor that you will get a free trade up to the mako II if you have the Mako's, but all Ive heard is rumors so far. If Easton actually came out and offered this to anyone who had some problems with their current Mako's I'd probably give it a shot. So most likely, I'll be waiting until June to make the purchase. Just a quick question to former vapor owners: Im currently in Vapor X5.0's, and before trying on the mako's, I was pretty confident that my next pair of skates would be either the X90's or X100's until I tried the makos on. What was the main reason you chose mako's over another pair of vapors? Personally, I like the fit of my vapors, besides the toe box being a little narrow. I tried on X100's, and the toe box felt a little better, and the liner and fit were both huge upgrades over my vapors, so I would have been happy with these not knowing that the makos existed. I tried the Mako's on a few weeks ago, and have never felt anything else like them. There was absolutely zero negative space. My only concerns are how they end up feeling when I actually skate with them. Im sure theyll feel fine, but just compared to the vapors, maybe sitting down in a store isnt the best comparison. I know they are also set up differently, which Ill have to get used to. I know Ill get used to however they feel, but these are just the last few things I cant get out of my head before dropping $700+ on new skates. I really wish they had some 30 day try out or somewhere where you can try them out first. Still probably gonna buy either way, but I'd just like to know what others think. Worst case scenario, if I hate them I can sell them and get vapors.
  17. jeeze. What kind of socks do you wear with those? And correct me if im wrong, but I think Ive read somewhere that this is one of the things they will be fixing on the mako 2's. Would it be possible for you to add some padding to that spot, and then try heat molding them so that it doesnt rub? I had a spot near my pinkie toe bone that was tight, and I wrapped it in a bunch of layers of tape, and then hit it with the heat gun, and it seemed to help. I guess its just more reason to wait until June.
  18. whats the mako bump? Does it have something to do with the material around the ankle? I tried them on in store, and they felt pretty good all over, but not sure how they would feel on the ice. Waiting until June either way, so hopefully between now and then Ill be able to try before buying. And also one more question for mako owners / people coming from vapors: I usually dont use the top eyelet so I can get more forward flex, does anyone who used to do this with other skates now do it with these skates?
  19. So I was able to stop at a store kind of far away and try these on. I initially had no intention of purchasing, but after trying on, I was seriously contemplating it. To compare, I tried on a pair of x100's at the same time - which might have been my next pair of skates if I had not tried these on. The first thing I noticed was that there was absolutely zero negative space in any part of the boot. If my current skates even felt like that after being baked I would be happy. Even around the toe cap, it felt like it hugged my foot the entire way around. Whoever described it as a basketball sneaker type boot was dead on. I also felt a little lower to the ground on the mako vs the x100. Just from trying them on, im pretty sold on the feel, but the only thing holding me back is the aggressive way that theyre set up. Ive never skated in graf's, or any other type of skate set up like this. No idea if Ill like it more or end up hating it, but right now $750 is a lot to gamble on something that im not 100% about. Ive been skating on Bauer's, and do like how theyre set up - and I also see most pros wearing the same skates (vs graf and mako), which sort of makes me want to stay with a traditional skate - and not have skates that im going to have to change my skating style to match. Not saying I wouldnt, but I like using stuff thats widely used, and adapt myself to it, rather than use some niche type of equipment (example - I loved using the heatley pattern, but I switched to a Hall because its more popular, and ended up forcing me to shoot the right way). So a few guys at the store talked to me about the skates, these are rumors I heard from them: Guy 1: New skates coming out in June. Exact same skate but no colors Guy 2: New Skates coming out in Fall. Mako will be doing the trade in program like Warrior did (actually mentioned warrior as well) Obviously both reports are conflicting, but I'm skeptical of a trade in program if they are going to be the exact same skate. That being said, it would make more sense to stop production now if they plan on doing a trade in program in the spring or summer - since they dont want a bunch of old models being sold that are just going to be traded back in anyway. And for the record, seeing them in person - I actually kind of liked the orange. But obviously this is gonna put a target on your head as the guy with the orange skates. I guess you can always just black them out somehow. I really didnt like the red on my vapors, so I sharpied over them and I think they look pretty good.
  20. So two questions: 1. How does the fit of these compare to the Bauer lines? Shops around here don't have a huge selection, so I haven't been able to try on anything else but Bauer for the most part. The nexus was too wide, and the vapor fits perfect compared to the supreme for me. 2. I've heard people mention mako 2 skates coming out. Any eta on those? I eventually want a nice pair of skates (currently in vapor x5.0's) but would like to get a deal if it's possible, so even if I don't get the mako 2's, the price cut on these will be substantial. I've only skated in Bauer's, so I don't know if I'd end up liking these better, but I'm driving by a hockey monkey store this weekend, so I might have a chance to try them on at least.
  21. Just a question to people who people who have converted: What are the benefits of converting? Is a more of a cost thing, or is there a big performance advantage? Or is a just a preference thing? Ex. You like the fit of your ice skates vs any of the inline offerings. I got a good deal on axioms earlier this year, so I bought those and they're ok I guess, but I really like the fit of my vapor ice skates compared to the axioms. The axioms imo fit like the nexus line of skates. I have been considering selling my roller skates to get ones that fit like my vapors. (How much do used roller blades go for? ) If that's what I'm going for, what would be a better option: Getting the new Bauer vapor x70r or x90r roller blades, or Get either x70 or 5.0 skates and converting them? Maybe those are bad examples (not equal quality skates), but you get the idea. I also already have a chassis and wheels, if selling just the axiom boot is viable - but I'm not sure if people would be interested in buying just a boot. Maybe I'm better off selling it together.
