  1. as long as the holder size is the same, the holes will line right up. They are likely just unfamiliar with swapping holders to different brand's skates.
  2. Got me a new twig! Dynasty AX1ST 85 flex W28 curve
  3. Not Mako2's, but the original mako's, so it should be about the same. Sent you a PM.
  4. nope, they all matched up. No need to drill any new holes or anything
  5. it all matched up without having to re-drill anything. pulled off the old holders, put in the new tee bolts and tightened everything down.
  6. I can't find any that I would want to use. I don't really trust phillips head screws just because there's a risk of stripping it out with the improper sized bit. The current screws I use take a T20 torx bit to tighten and work really well. The washers were like $2 per 100, so i'm not too worried about it. i'm going to go with these tee nuts next time I swap out hardware: http://www.mcmaster.com/#90973a400/=1050qcfLooks like Type 316 stainless steel is the way to go: http://www.bosunsupplies.com/StainlessInfo2/
  7. Finished product: Replaced all of the t-nuts as they were getting badly corroded. Next time I have to pull them off, i'll be ordering some stainless steel hardware.
  8. Thanks for the info! I got lazy a couple months into installing my t-bolt setup and have since stopped pulling out the footbeds. I'll take a peek at them and see how they are holding up so far. I think last time I checked, they were a little corroded, but nothing major.
  9. I've gone to t-bolts after breaking a CXN holder. Sometime this winter I am thinking about going to TUUK edge holders just because I can easily swap them in now. here's my post on this thread on how to convert over: http://modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php/topic/61887-easton-mako-skates/?p=1020505
  10. I actually barely lace my skates now. I've also been experimenting with skating with no socks because my current socks are meant for basketball and are very thick. Skating barefoot feels REALLY good. no issues other than slight numbness in my toes due to cold, but that's about it.
  11. So I was able to measure roughly the holder height on my friends supreme 170's that use the LS edge holder. it's 70mm roughly on the rear tower & 55mm on the front tower roughly. so I need an extra 5mm to have the rear tower be the same as the CXN & the front tower is roughly the same.
  12. no, sorry, this was with the standard CXN holders & stock pitch and everything. I haven't actually gotten my hands on a pair of Bauer holders/steel yet to try this combo out on. not sure about the vertexx cowlings, but there's a lot of posts about others converting their mako's to goalie skates by removing the extendon guard & mounting them in a pair of goalie cowlings. http://goaliestore.com/board/forum/equipment/equipment-forum/107534-my-easton-mako-mlx-goal-skates
  13. So I was able to skate in them for the first time yesterday. No noticeable weight difference, or different balance points on the skates. I felt like I was skating way better, i'm not sure if it is because there was very little flex in the connection between the boot and the holder now, or what. It definitely felt like there was way more bite in each stride I took.
  14. I have not had a chance to skate on them yet, but the hardware itself is likely the same weight. I don't have any of the rivets to weigh, but I can weigh 1 full piece of the hardware (nut, bolt & washer) when I get home to let you know how much it weighs.
  15. Hmm, thanks for the info, maybe I just had a bad set or the rivets were loose causing excessive flex that allowed that to break. I noticed when I was taking out the rivets that some of the rear tower rivets were loose and did not appear to be set properly in the boot itself. Hopefully with the tee-nuts I will get a more consistent pressure across the entire holder
  16. Gotchya, I've got a friend that owns a pair of supreme 170's, so I was going to just measure the height of both towers and the length of it with the blade too to see what kind of shims I would need to add.
  17. Would you happen to know what kind of shim I would need to make the LS edge holder be the same height/angle as the CXN's by chance? I like the forward angle of the CXN's, I just don't like their durability so far. Maybe I just had a bad pair or something like that.
  18. My blade holder broke on my right skate, so I figured while I had it off I should just replace all of them with t-bolts for ease of repair in the future. also, it took me ~2-2.5hrs for my skate that I got a replacement holder for, the holes didn't quite line up for some reason on one of the holder's holes in the back, so I filed a bit of the plastic out to make it line up with the protruding t-bolt. It was off by maybe 0.01" or so Also, if the CXN holders keep breaking on me, I'm just going to replace them with Tuuk Lightspeed edge holders and be done with it.
  19. http://imgur.com/a/cJIt2 Spent ~3hrs cutting those little fangs off the tee bolts and making sure the runner lines up perfectly. I just need to skate on them, make sure everything feels good, then undo the bolts & put on some blue loctite on all of them. edit: here is a parts list of everything that I used. http://www.mcmaster.com/#90975a007/=vnyka0 http://www.mcmaster.com/#96710a255/=vnykdh http://www.mcmaster.com/#90107a101/=vnykit My current washers are a bit too big, so I am going to swap them out with the ones I linked above. You will need the following tools: A t15 torx screw driver/key End Nippers, preferably ones with large comfortable handles. The small ones I had were HORRIBLE a round file or drill bit with appropriate size if you need to drill out the holes.
  20. Well, I ordered the tee-nut hardware in 6/32" like people were recommending from mcmaster. Since my holder broke & easton is sending me a new pair of holders, this will be a good test to see if those will work. Worst case scenario i'll just have them re-riveted back in place
  21. My old reebok's in 10d are similar in size compared to the 10d makos I have now. You should be fine going with the same size in mako's
  22. I haven't skated on a pair of the M8's, but I did try them on before buying my Mako 1's to make sure size would be the same. The only difference I could really tell is the toebox had a slightly softer material in there compared to the Mako 1's and other than that, everything is the same.
  23. Well, I think my skates are finally broken in. 6 skates in and they feel great. No more arch pain, mako bite is taken care of by folding out the outside ankle support part of the boot. I just need to wait till those sores heal up and we'll see how they feel. As of right now to protect myself from it I wear a long sock that goes up over my ankle/lower part of my shin. I pull my long Under armor compression pants over my socks and then I have a 3-5mm neoprene ankle support sleeve I wear over top of that. It seems to protect the sores that I have right now pretty well. Once they are fully healed I will ditch the sleeves and see how it feels with just the socks & UA compression pants. I wish I would have followed the advice on here first and bent that outwards when I first got my skates and baked them.
