  1. No Bueno. They are not able to honor promotions on orders that have previously shipped.
  2. I contacted them 2 days ago but they are not replying to my message. I also purchased 2 gift cards 6 days ago and still didn't receive them. It shows in my past orders they were paid but unfulfilled. Not sure if this is a system glitch or they took the whole 4th of July week off.
  3. As a complete rookie in sharpening I realized that good deburring is very important aspect of the whole process.
  4. I should have waited few days as they are running a promo code for this week for $100 off (OneYear100).
  5. Got my Sparx sharpener on Tuesday. I was testing today on my old pair of skates. Looks good to me! Great product Sparx!
  6. That is exactly why I didn't mind paying the premium for their services, but as you said, possibly caught them on a bad day. I pulled the trigger last night and impatiently waiting for the sharpener.
  7. After receiving bad and overpriced service from "No Icing", I decided to pull the trigger on the Sparx sharpener. I will be ordering in next couple of days to make sure it gets here for my birthday :-). I guess it was meant to be that way.
  8. Today I received my Sparx edge checker and was shocked how my edges were uneven. I always thought I was getting a good sharpening. Is this that bad as it looks?
  9. Any special coupons for forum members? Still on the fence about the purchase.
  10. That makes sense. Somehow I thought that the Mako boot had some kind of + pitch on its own.
  11. Question for guys who switched from Bauer to Mako and swapped the holders for TUUK LS edge. Did you swap the holders to make it feel like (to have same pitch) like Bauer? After swapping the holders, dud it really feel like Bauer? I am trying to figure out if the pitch on Mako comes only from the CXN holder/steel or does the Mako boot has some kind of pitch as well. I am in Mako with CXN holders and Step Steel so it should be around +2 pitch but would like to know if changing to TUUK edge holder would back it up a bit to approx. +1 pitch. I got somewhat used to the +2 pitch but would like to help my knees a bit as I heard that some people had knee problems from the aggressive pitch.
  12. I also have Step Steel with CXN holders and they are completely different from the stock CXN runners. The heel is almost the same but the toe is much taller making them neutral.
  13. I had problems with Mako bumps in the first generation of Mako. Currently in Mako 2 and no problems at all.
  14. Thanks for the responses/pictures. I emailed VH about the issue and will have to wait for their response. On the order form I mentioned the same instep problem with Reebok Ribcor and I also attached a lot of pictures with 2 of them having a ruler on side.
  15. I received my VH skates and it seems that I am having instep volume issues. I tried them unbaked for the fit and a pencil test and it failed in the instep area. VH said that after baking, my foot should move back about 3-4 mm. I baked them last night, but it seems that I still have instep volume issues. I thought that going custom route would eliminate problems like this with odd feet (in my case high instep). I didn’t have a chance to skate in them yet but I am scared of lace bite down the road. I had a same problem with Reebok Ribcor and it was one of the reasons I went custom with VH. I am currently in Easton Mako 2 skates and they fit me a lot better. I just want your opinion before I contact VH. All the pictures/videos I have seen with people wearing the VH skates have it nicely and uniformly wrapped around their feet. I am including picture before baking (without holders) and after baking. Thanks.
  16. I am currently in Mako and Easton is sending me Mako 2 as a warranty replacement. The glitches the Mako had should be fixed in Mako 2. I would say if Mako fits you well go with Mako. Don't get discouraged if you have problems to put them on, they are really tight fit and should be heat molded. There is no other skate that will wrap your foot like the Mako unless you go custom like VH footwear. I had Reebok Ribcor and I tried Bauer Vapor x100 and those skates are too stiff for me and were restricting natural ankle movement.
  17. Hockey Monkey has a cyber week sale and clearing out the original Easton Mako's for $330 with free shipping. The price might be valid only today.
  18. If you go 1 page back, you will see pictures showing that I had similar problem. The holders were misaligned. I had the skates replaced by the store I purchased them from.
  19. I was in Reebok Ribcor 8.5D and now have the Easton Mako in 8.5D. They fit perfect! I replaced the original runners for Step steel to remove a bit of the aggressive pitch. So far happy.
  20. Thanks for your response, Yes, I was talking about two issues. Misaligned holders and unable to push the Step steel runner all the way down. I should have known that I would possibly get Mako 2 as a replacement from Easton and I would have done it. Damn it! I just requested a replacement pair from a hockey store to cross ship and they already came today. I already baked them this morning and have the Step steel sharpened. I will put the Step steel runners on after I get home from work tonight and use a mallet like you suggested. I want to skate tomorrow on them but not sure if it's a good idea to play a game, maybe I should just go to a public skate? Do you think that it will be a drastic change from Reebok Ribcor skates to Mako's? The Step steel makes the Mako's bit less aggressive I guess. I also had 280 on Ribcor's and now 272 on Mako's.
  21. I posted the pictures with original runners to show misalignment of the holders. I don't have the skates anymore as their replacement is coming tomorrow. I wasn't able to push the step steel runners into the holders all the way down, at least by hand because I didn't want to use extreme force and break the holder. Is this normal? A guy at LHS said that it is normal and to use rubber mallet or piece of wood. Anyone has an experience? What do you guys think about the misaligned holders? To me it looks like quarter of an inch, which is a lot. The lady was trying to tell me that sometimes it's ok as long the blade is centered. ????? To my understanding if the holder is misaligned then the blade cannot be centered. Am I missing something?
  22. I tried to replace the original runners in Easton Mako for step steel runners. It seems like the step steel runners are bit wider than original because I wasn't able to push the runner all the way down. Should I apply more force to push it down? I don't want to break the holder. I have to return the skates for an exchange due to misaligned holder.

  24. Hockeymonkey.com has the Mako on clearance for $460. I received an email with a promo code "MMESTNMAKOHS" to take additional $110 off. Total with $15 shipping was $365. The code should be valid for another 2 hours.
