  1. Think about it... It's a boot, not a car. It can not make anything faster. You might be faster and more maneuverable because it is more comfortable and perhaps for some, because it is more supportive, but that would little to do with if it is one-piece or many-piece boot. The boot that will make you faster could be any boot as long as it makes you faster .
  2. Brandon Dubinsky is now flopping VH tongues.
  3. I guess he believes on the inside that cowlingless can give him advantage, but he just can not figure out how. His problem is probably lays in boots being too stiff and holder too high. Some skaters live off the boot give, some wish there was none. Not sure if Price will find his way to the cowlingless this time around, but True have got another guy on board, Boone Jenner.
  4. watch preseason game yesterday ando noticed that more Blue Jackets added to True ranks. Matt Calvert is a new one this year from old line, plus a handful of new commers. It looks like Bobrovski is looking into a change. He was in VH boot and CCM cowling last year, but it looks like he is sporting a one piece VH goalie now.
  5. look like painters boots... but then again, there are designers and then, there are hockey players.
  6. tongue is basically the same design as on his brown winter classics ccm skates from 15/16 season.
  7. Yes, but it also has reinforced and reshaped toecap, different hight of the boot on the inside vs outside, soft comfort edge around the top including tendon v-cut (or whatever it is called). It also has extra protection on the inner side bottom of the boot, boot heel protection (from banging on the posts), more flexible upper edge of the boot. As I said, it is not that the VH goalie skate I saw on the display is bad, it is just feels underdesigned. Maybe less is more, and commonly it is, but for some reason Bauer (as an example) has bothered to add all of these features and went to a length to design the goalie holder.
  8. When I grabbed the skate off the display, I thought I was holding players skate, until I saw the weird runner setup. Then I noticed that tendon guard is basicaly just gone. Looks to much of a retrofit, as if one took players skates, cut off the tendon guard, and grinded the rocker of the runner leaving what it looks like less than half an inch of steel in the middle (does not look promissing for sparx). I'd say if you order those, send bauer holder in if you think that cowlings are thing of the past. Also as a separate question to you as a goalie, does that rim atop of the toe area tears the edge of the pads up, or the cowling on your current skates covers it enough to protect the pads? so yes, boot is identicle, but as a goalie skate package, it seems a bit under designed.
  9. I have stopped by monkeys ports and they have true display. It says that boot only costs $110 less, so yes it looks like there is a discount, but obviously, they might charge a mounting fee, which is not mentioned. I liked the holder much more in person than on the photographs here. Dimples are kind of not as in your face. Actually liked the holes cut out. Nice solid feel to the way the runners are in. Very solid feel for the holders overall. Gloves are pretty nice too. The display is pretty good. Goalie skates - meh, bug if they work, they work I guess.
  10. Not sure if there is a discount on holders or not (probably not as that would make most sense from standpoint of promoting more VH product out), but, I think it would help VH if they'd let you have the VH holders and steel regardless if you opted out or not and offer no discounts. So even if you opted to send Tuuks in, they would mount the Tuuks on the skates and sent you the VH holders and Steel on the side. This way, you can put those in if you change your mind later, or sell them rinkside or whatever. My logic on this is that in a short period of time, there will be loads of random skaters with VH holders simply because people wanted to try the holders and were able to get them from Ebay or rinkside for cheap. Lots of them will love the holders and this creates a pool of future customers that will go with VH holders plus it creates stronger brand awareness. This can be pretty efficient way to take over a market share from other holders/steel manufacturers or at least make a small dent in the competitors revenues while creating VH holders culture. StepSteel will benefit from this as they will sell more steel this way.
  11. You should check this with other shop. Misfiring is probably not the only symptoms of blown head-gasket. I would imagine that the coolant also will be getting into the cylinder which produces very obvious, white exhaust, like steam.
  12. ... or from something like http://www.skaterescueservice.com/step-runners-for-vh-skate-holder-blacksteel/ (Is it NoIcing?)
  13. Not sure about the question. But on a slim chance that you do not know this, True holder will not fit LS Edge runners. True holders use their own design of runners (looks somewhat similar to Graf). If you are looking for True holder Black Step steel, I think you'd have to order that from Step as a special order.
  14. I think tracing foot is not a rocket science, but it needs to be shown and verified by someone who knows how. I would think a minimal training (show and check) will produce a better tracer than a guy at home watching a youtube clip. Plus It is easier to trace someone else's foot than your own just due to where the point of view is. IMO smart move on VH behalf. Of course they should have an option of self tracing open for people who leave in BFE.
  15. Are you sure these were not goalie VH? Goalie VH are pretty low and non-uniform and might be hard to camp, but players VH are pretty normal. I see Cobras or CXN steel be profiled to as much as -3 to offset the extra positive pitch of the holder, but VH holder is fairly neutral to do this to.
  16. Sorry that it came out like that, but I have "ignored" the points that were not brought up in my original post. For example the part where you were expanding on how VH skates are built not as per generic last, but molded for each player individually. That had nothing to do with my original post so I did not respond to it. Neither I claimed that VH made the same as Mako, I just said that cheese-cloth texture of the heel reminds me Mako skates. I am familiar with the fact that the each skate is molded for each customer individually. I do agree that it is the only real method to get skater in the skates that fit perfectly, especially if skater has some abnormalities and I appreciate that aspect of the True skates. My original post was purely aesthetics related and all my replies to your follow-ups were (not inappropriately) limited to just that. Aesthetics are subjective topic and as such not a good subject to evolve a conversation around. I did, later, add something about that use of player holder for goalie holder is a miss, but perhaps that was a train gone at that time. That is something that I would like to hear more about. Thanks,
  17. It just looks like the plastic of the holder is pretty close to the edge on goalie version.
  18. You keep on "either or" thing. Is it impractical to expect aesthetics and fit/performance in the same product? They do that with cars all the time (wink at the quote which, contrary to popular believe, most likely, has not come from Henry Ford). Either way, I am not saying that True skates suck and that I want leather and tube holders back if that is what prompt you to put the quote in. I am just saying that to me, and a couple of other weirdos, they perform great, fit even better, but are ugly ducklings never the less.
  19. 1. My mention of Mako is based purely on visual similarity. It has nothing to do with perforamance. All I said the round bulge in the heel look the same as on Mako shape wise as well as texture wise (fabric mesh) which I personally find pretty cheezy. 2. My argument was that skates do not have to look ugly to perform and fit well. There is nothing to inverse. 3. It is not a complaint, but an opinion that the skates look unappealing. When skates were made in a craftsman fashion by SVH... it was a boutique product that was ok to be stylistically challenged, however today, it is out in the mainstream and certain expectation are at play. Again, is is an opinion. 4. I know that the same holder used for the goalie skates... However, it looks a bit botched. You have great performing boot, but holder looks retrofitted. Rockered holder fitted with a runner that is "forced" flat, leaving pretty thin strip in the middle. Holder also puts goalies a bit high (based on some opinions of goalies who tried this). Perhaps, for mainstream argument sake, it might be good to have goalie holder and player holder purposely designed for two different tasks. by the way, can the goalie holder/runner fit in Sparx or prosharp pirtables?
  20. ... either way, they do not have to be ugly to fit or perform. For example, remove these weird dimples from true holders and they will look ok and perform just as well as they do now.
  21. There could be something wrong with me, but I think these are pretty ugly. The resin/mesh heel reminds me Makos look which is not a compliment. It almost looks to me that if the side piece that has the VH logo on it, was a one piece with the foxing, completely covering this heel, it would have removed this bursting-out-bubble situation at the back and made this a much more stream-lined and easier on the eye skate.
  22. It is pretty easy to underestimate a simple and humble guy. I believe we have seeing only the tip of an iceberg. Playing center can take him to the next level and develop his defensive skills. With Jackets, he is the star. I believe that Kane to Panarin was what Sergei Fedorov was to Datsyuk. While it was pretty great, Datsyuk exposed himself as a legendary only after Fedorov was gone. I might be wrong here, but I think Torts here onto something. Then of course, this could be simply because CBJ ended up shy of centers and Panarin is the best choice to convert into one.
  23. Just noticed that Jackets listed Panarin as #9 since his previous numbers are already taken by Murray and Bobrovsky. Also looks like Jackets expecting Panarin to play center. I am looking forward to the start of the season...
  24. When I hear "hospice" and "my mom" in the same sentence, I am very soreful for your family, especially your dad; loosing the soulmate is like loosing once soul itself. Your art did not need to go, but your dad going through a very unique circumstances, in some cases more difficult than loosing a parent or even a child. Please make him feel as if him throwing your sketchbook is not a big deal, even if it really is. I am sorry for what you and your family is going through.
