Even though you don’t like speed plates, you might want to try them again since you already have some, and see if they remove the pain. Superfeet lift your heel, changing the depth of the skate, and the arch support is one size fits all. It is possible the arch support is the issue. If you rebake one skate, it might be worth standing up while it cools, to spread the feet more.

    I also agree with this.

    Thanks, Junkyard! Helpful - I didn’t know 6.5 EE came on a 263. That’s promising (I hope).

I’ve just gone down a full size in skates, and while the boot feels great, the 254 feels really unstable after skating on a 263 for fifteen years.

Get them profiled. It will change things dramatically. We do profiling at the shop I own and everyone is blown away with the significance of change after the steel is profiled.

CCM's Orthomove insole looks intriguing.  However it's new so I don't know that there's any feedback out there on them yet.

I've used them and hated them. Felt like Superfeet which I am not a fan of. I am a huge advocate of the previous generation CCM insoles and the Bauer speedplate.

Before you do anything, try wearing thinner socks. See if that helps. If you already do that, try skating without the insole or replace the insole with one from a pair of runners. This is just for diagnosing. I wouldn't recommend skating in a game with no insole.

If it's a room issue, the pain should subside or go away. Our feet aren't symmetrical. One foot is often slightly larger than the other, so a perfect fit on one skate may not be perfect on the other.

If the pain doesn't subside, it may be a sign it's something else. And maybe start with a rebake before considering punching.

With new skates, I always have to fiddle with the right skate

I would also agree, try a thinner sock. Can you take a picture of your foot showing exactly where you are feeling pain? Also, if you could take a picture of your foot on the footbed it would help too. Thanks!

Have you tried the new Warrior helmet. Can’t speak for the breathability, but I was really impressed with the fit system when I tried it at Winterfest.

I have one of those coming in our next shipment along with all of the new QR stuff, including the girdles. However, I need to select a Bauer helmet as a replacement for the Easton E700 they are covering under warranty. Even if the new Warrior Alpha fits fantastic I still need something in the interim.

Some areas yes, others no and some areas are about dead even.

CCM has made some huge strides in a lot of areas. It wasn’t that long ago where any sort of improvement was a huge upgrade.

    Agreed

Back on topic.... you try the Fit Lite?

I did, it looks like a bubble on my head. I tried the OG Fitlite and the 3DS versions.

It’s been a few years since I worked in a shop but didn’t Bauer want their retailers to buy a lot of product up front in order to be a “Bauer dealer”, a lot of which would often go unsold by the end of the season, so stores stopped doing that?

Yes, this is the exact reason why we no longer stock their gear but will order it if requested. We see most people prefer CCM though since the quality of their product is better than Bauer, their skates are more advanced, and they understand customer price points better than Bauer.

I think you don't sell it because you can't get it, but, that's a story for another day...

We CAN get it through distributors but we only do custom orders and prefer to not stock much Bauer gear. We have a small selection of sticks, gloves, pants, and helmets but mostly for kids or intermediate and not adults. Not sure where the comment "you can get it" came from, but you should check your facts before you made rude remarks.,

Especially since they'll all expire around the same time.

Why care about expiration? I play adult.

I tried one on today and liked it a lot. Pretty sure this is what I am going with.

I suspect he will have seen what I have seen in a lot of them. The lining had issues. If you pull it on and off your lid a lot it frays and peels around the edges badly. I glue them down but eventually it goes hard (from repeated gluing) or falls apart completely and becomes unusable / uncomfortable. In some helmets it happened really fast like within a couple of months, others would last for ages. I also got 5 of them a few years ago, lost 2 to the lining issue, one to a puck strike and have 2 left. Regardless of their issues, imho they are still one of the best helmets ever made so far.

Correct, the shell is fine but the interiors fall apart. One helmets interior didn't even last more than a few months. Poor quality. I ended up having to use a sewing machine and stitching it all together but eventually, the liner backing which connects to the velcro started to tear off.

If you're going to be buying top of the line, does one helmet weighing 15 grams more than another really affect how you turn your head? A cage is much more impactful as far as adding weight goes and I know you wear a visor.

Get a helmet that fits your head and is comfortable and well-ventilated, ignore the weight.

Most helmets weigh 200 grams or more than the E700.

Why the concern about the lightest?  Its your head... protect it.

I like a light helmet. That's what I prefer. Why can't a helmet be light AND protective? The E700 has done just fine for me despite the interior falling apart.

I'm sure Bauer would be the best resource to find the answer to your question...since of course you're going to be getting one of their helmets.

I thought you owned (owns, owns) a shop. Maybe go a check a few out at YOUR SHOP?

I dont sell Bauer at all. Nothing. Only CCM, Warrior, True, STX and Sher-Wood.

  11. I am a huge fan of the Easton E700. I actually purchased a bunch of them before Easton was acquired by Bauer as I assumed they would be end of life. My last E700 has kicked the bucket and Bauer is offering to replace it and asked me to test fit multiple helmets and let them know what works best for me. What are some of the lighter Bauer helmets with good ventilation?

I test fitted the IMS line of helmets and was surprised the IMS 9.0 fit entirely different than the IMS 11.0 but I guess it makes sense since the shell itself is a different design. The IMS 9.0 fit very well but felt heavy, the IMS 11.0 didn't fit well at all.

I am looking for some suggestions. As mentioned, looking for a light, breathable, and preferably low profile helmet.

...provided the mask fits her face shape/length.

Very overlooked part of buying a combo.  That's why you're seeing stores nowadays just selling the loose helmets (and Bauer seeing that and reducing the amount of combos they offer for 2018) solely due to this.

Yeah, our shop never orders combos anymore. Too many times the helmet fits and the cage is too big or small. We got tired of taking cages in on "trade" for the proper fitting cage and then having a stockpile of cages in the back of the store.

What options does it give under ‘boot height?’

Pretty cool that you can specify the stiffness by zones.

I don’t think IW is saying the 9080 is the same skate as McD wears, just the same material spec; different cut though.

McD could wear 652 VakuTacks and still tear up the NHL. In junior he often had current model skates (by appearances at least) and he was still electric from his first game onward.

    +3mm boot cut, FT1

    +6mm, comfort pad

    +9mm, both

So the Tacks 9080 is identical to the old JetSpeed? From the gear sightings thread, I think it’s interesting CCM can’t get McDavid to use their current product (or at least something that looks like their current product).

If it isn't broken, why change? McDavid is just fine in his current skates so I dont see any reason for him to change his equipment.

  15. I have a friend looking at these as they are on sale for 20% off with no tax or shipping. From what I can gather from the interwebs they are an older Vapor skate in a Nexus body. Is that correct? Also, is it a tech mesh or composite? They dont really say. What is the outsole, composite or TPU?

    Thanks!

I am one of the people you would say is "anti-true" and I posted no such thing - in fact I seconded West Side Skate as the place to go for his fitting.  All we did is make a fair accounting of the issues that have been reported.  And if you read the last few pages in the thread you will see them posted by True owners themselves.

I'll be honest. I have mixed feelings about the skates. Certain things I love and other things I dislike. But that's the way it is with most things in life. If you want it to be exactly the way you want you need to do build it yourself or find someone to build it for you.

Left boot has a squeaky sound when I lean forward on dryland. Loose blade in holder? Loose screw in holder? I barely bunny hop the boards, ugh.

My skates have done that since day one. I only hear it and dont feel anything when on dry land. I dont hear or feel anything it on the ice.

  18. I used to use Pro Stock sticks but with dealer staff discount from manufacturers being so significant there is no a cheaper option for the top of the line sticks.

I only rock the Warrior W28 Yakupov sticks for this reason.

The only chest pounding I typically come across is people letting everyone know they weren’t dumb enough to spend $299 for a top of the line stick.

My point was/is that the majority of buyers want to pound their chest about the pro player item they've purchased more than it's usefulness.

Taking sticks as an example, the reality is that anyone can be accustomed to use any flex and curve given time to get used to it, yet, it isn't made to their specs.

I'd say there is fairly big difference between pro-stock skates and pro-stock gloves, pants & sticks. Your average hack can use anyone of those items without impacting his or her game. Skates on the other hand, if they dont fit, well you know how that goes.

FWIW, I buy pro-stock sticks because it's good value. I could care less who's name is on the nameplate (most of the time it's someone I've never heard of).

  19. So I spoke with Rob at True, he is the Operations Manager for True Skates. He mentioned there are a few options to drop weight in the skate.

On average a True boot is roughly 10-30 grams heavier and depending on the boot size is sometimes lighter than other brands.

40-50 grams of weight is due to the Step steel and STEP/VH holders so swapping to Tuuk holders and a smaller or lighter steel LS2/Byonic would drop unsprung weight.

Shot blockers add roughly 40-50 grams of weight per skate but cannot be removed as they are incorporated into the design. The stiffness he said will break in over time =. It might take a while but it will eventually become less rigid.

He said they do have special lightweight tongues that they can supply that will save 30-40 grams compared to the metatarsal ones I currently have. Not sure which tongues those are but I am very excited to see them.
