I agree, my Trigger2 is just meh, but I love the P30 coming from a P88.  I'm the opposite as your son though - I'll stick with the Trigger2 to keep the P30 blade.

A Vapor 1X with a P30 may be the best stick ever for me.

I have been wanting to try the Trigger but the feedback is the blade is soft and not very durable. Is that your impression? Or did you like the blade and dislike the shaft?

  2. I typically use a P28 and sometimes the P92, so I decided to give the JetSpeed P30 a try. I like the curve more than a P92 but a little less than the P28. I think passing and taking quick shots when the puck is not level is easier with the P30 vs the P28. The slightly fatter toe is also easier to scoop the puck. That being said, I still like the P28 more. It's very possible that since I use the True A6.0 HT it was the stick itself that made the curve feel wrong, but until I can try that same curve on a True A6.0 HT stick I dont think my thoughts about it will change.

Nope, Supremes definitely have a more neutral pitch.  Many posters here have complained about the feeling of being back on their heels when they switched to new Supremes.  I can't say for sure if it's the boot or the holder, because I had that feeling when I went from NXGs to MX3s, both Supremes, with the only change being the holder.  I'd imagine that going from a non-Edge Vapor to an Edge Supreme would be an even more dramatic change.

I have no idea.  DO a quick search on here for "shim" and I'm sure the answer is out there.  Maybe someone more experienced with this than me can help you out.

I can't imagine that it would be more than a few bucks. Rivets are $1-2 each, and the shims can't be that much.  I'd expect something in the $20 range maybe?

It doesn't affect the profile, it will tilt you forward to get you off your heels and more of the feeling that you had in the Vapors.   So if your Supremes are a 0 in terms of pitch, your Vapors may have been a +2 forward.  The Quad 0 is giving you back close to a +1, but you're still behind what you had before.  You can have the profile put on at an angle to alter the pitch, without altering the profile or adding shims.  But I feel Shims are the better method.

EDIT: Or you can just wait for JR to reply and answer everything more accurately than I can.  lol

Heel lifts are a good option if you don't have access to a competent shop that can perform and maintain profiles.

There are also a solid option if you like the factory steel profile but just want a little more pitch forward.

Some people would rather use a heel lifts as opposed to grinding down their steel. Totally understandable.

I can't say if one option is better than the other. Too many variables.

In fact, we even get people who want lifts AND profile their steel. How bout that?!

Not sure if this is feasible or not, but it would be really great if there's something in the pro shop where we can pay to rent a set of popular pre-profiled runners to try out. Not sure how the payment would work to ensure people return the set, but maybe some sum of deposit would be required.

For most people like me, profiling is something you go into blind and hope for the best. I would love to try out a few runners to see how they feel in person prior to mailing my runners to get them profiled.

We offer a service like this for teams. We have 4 sets of each blade size in various profiles and we let the players seap through them until they find a profile that works best for them.

Most people I do profiles for just send us a couple sets of steel and we put profile X and Y on them and send them back to test. When. We find the profile or setup that works for them we then profile all of there steel to match.

Not sure if it makes sense to do what you are suggesting via online. It's quite cost prohibitive.

Yes, the CCM Jetspeed line and it's ancestors (CL, RBZ, QLT) are a bit snug in the upper arm area. They're a nice 3 piece pad, but are quite tight if you don't have thin arms. That's one of the reasons I like my old Warrior Projekts; they flare out in the bicep area, but are snug around the elbow and forearm. My biceps aren't huge or anything, but I do find them more comfortable with the flare of the bicep protector.

The STX Surgeon line is definitely worth trying if you can find them - they have a sleeve similar to the 1S you like: https://www.hockeymonkey.com/stx-hockey-elbow-pads-surgeon-500-sr.html. They're not easy to find in my area (I've only seen the gloves in a few stores), but I've seen them on trips to the US at stores like Perani's, Hockey Monkey and even in small rink pro shops. You can use the dealer locator on their site and then perhaps call the stores to check stock before driving there: https://www.stx.com/find-a-dealer.

Also note that the Stallion line is a bit bulkier than the Surgeon line; so if mobility and lack of bulk is a priority it's the Surgeon line you're after. It of course doesn't hurt to try on both.

It going to be even more difficult to find STX moving forward as they are pulling all of their gear out of stores and going customer direct.

I tried some on and here’s what I thought. My favorite were the 1s pads because of the sleeve that they have integrated; however, I cannot justify spending $150 on elbows. Next would be the tacks line, the 7092s were a great fit and had great protection. Then was the vapors which were comfortable but only seemed to have hard enough caps in the 1x lite and x900 lite. I wasn’t a fan of the jetspeeds, they just didn’t have enough room for my arm to fit well. They didn’t have any stx gear which I would like to try out so I didn’t buy anything. I’m gonna see if I can find some otherwise i think I’m gonna buy the 7092s.

The 7092 is a good elbow, it just feels a bit bulky to me.

STX Surgeon 500 pads are 3 piece mobile pads and should be on clearance since the new Surgeon line is coming out soon.

The CCM RBZ, QLT and new Jetspeeds are worth consideration as well.

If you can find them, the old blue and grey Warrior Projekts from 2012 are my favourite pads of all time. They're a very mobile, light, 3 piece pad that also have a good level of protection. I have seen size large pro stocks on eBay recently.

As dkmiller mentioned, it is worth getting a higher end pad for competitive hockey with checking. It doesn't have to be a current model though; you can get often get an older high end model for less than the price a current line mid-end pad.

I have to agree with the STX surgeon models. The new RX series are even better than the previous ones, but they are all excellent.

What’s the deal with the blade?  Is the foam core now softer, maybe for feel?  Ice warehouse shows soft core not hard core in all models in the specs.

It definitely softer. I like my blade to be more lively so I was a bit disappointed that it felt more numb. I am thinking that a franken-stick is what's needed, taking the best of the QRE and QRL and blending them together.

Looking for some advice from you experts:

I'm not a bad skater, but I like to think I skate well enough to know what I'm feeling and whether I like it or not.

On my previous skate (x:60) I skated on a 9' +1 profile. When I finally got around to replacing my skates this year, I decided to give the stock LS3 profile a shot but it felt like I was skating on skis. After reading up on some profile options I decided to give Quad 0 a shot. To my surprise, it felt pretty good initially but as I got more ice time on it I think I know what is bugging me about the profile. It currently feels like I'm on my heels, and I don't feel quite as agile as I felt on a simple 9'. I feel like I have to pick my feet off the ice a bit more instead of being able to pivot with the blade on the ice.

    My questions are following:

    1. With a Quad 0 are you able to add a "+1"-like adjustment? I skate on 254 runners and wasn't sure if moving the profile would be feasible.

    2. If 1. is possible, would that fix my issue with feeling like there's a bit too much blade on the ice?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can add that adjustment but I recommend first finding the profile that fits your skating style and then making changes to pitch or moving the balance point.

Just placed an order tonight on IW for new AS1s. Can’t wait to get them. Yesterday I drove to Hockey World to try them on, but they were completely sold out! Oh well, I took my own meausurements and after looking at CCMs sizing guide, I went with a size 9.5D. If they don’t fit, IW has free return shipping, as long as your a member, and return within 7 days without skating or baking them. CCM and IW also offer a 365 day money back satisfaction guarantee if not completely satisfied after skating on them. Can’t go wrong.

I plan on using CCM SB holders and runners and maybe switch in the near future to the Tuuk holders. If I were to switch to the Tuuk holders and runners, what is the preferred holder/runner model and what size would I need for this skate?

Actually, If after 7 days, you may still return, but shipping would then become your responsibility. IW allows 365 days from time of purchase to return items in NEW condition. The CCM satisfaction guarantee is only 90 days

Thanks guys, got both your PMs, im gonna try to check out one of those places in the next few weeks.  I didn't even know custom skates like that were possible outside of True, so well see what they say.

I will try to go back to the place that sold me them, but I dont know what theyre gonna be able to do for me.  I cant return them, and I dont want to buy another pair of skates from them, so I think im SOL.  Hoping to sell them locally or on ebay.

This is why CCM is a better option than Bauer. They offer a 90 day no questions asked return policy on all of their skates.....

Seems counter-intuitive to do this to a custom skate known for it's "wrap" but after my heel lift issues improved some with skipping the top eyelet (thanks everyone) I decided to mess around with a heat gun.

I noticed that the ankle at the very top of my old supremes was splayed out wide, and I never had heel lift issues (despite having at least the same amount if not more dead space than the trues) So, I decided to open up the "wrap" at the very top of the True boots slightly, and this seemed to help even more.  Noticed virtually no heel issues during the first skate with them.

I actually think the conforming wrap wasn't allowing me to flex forward enough and almost acting like a hinge point.  Instead of flexing forward and my heel driving back, I was essentially levering on the front of the boot and bringing my heel up.

Dont' know if this makes any sense, or if I just got lucky....but these two tricks seemed to have helped significantly and thought I would pass it along.

    That's awesome news!

So what is the answer to the question? Is the customer out a grand?

    4 hours ago, stick9 said:

That ones on the customer. That said, the rep did tell him it would work so both parties share the blame.

If the process is telling you one thing and you demand another who’s to blame when it doesn’t work, you are. You’re the one who ultimately made the call to go against the recommendations. When you have problems, it’s on you.

Now if you follow the recommendations and there is a fit issue, well that’s on them.

I think this is why companies like CCM are now offering more in-depth online training courses and rewarding those who complete training with chances to win goodies.

Wow... you bought a brand new pair of Mako IIs?  There are still some of us left.  I hope you're not going for the same sizes as me... 😉

Anyway, I'm sure there will be some skate tech guys that will chime in, but as someone who has done a lot of tinkering with Makos and shims, I would argue the contrary to your point.  If you get a good profiler, it will be more accurate than shims.  The precision of measurement of still and subsequent profiling from those who are experienced and good should be right on the nose.  Whereas shims would likely be less precise.  On the other hand, profiles can change over time with repeated sharpenings, whereas shims will not.  Granted, with shims, the profile can still change with sharpenings anyway.

For me, since both my kids are very good skaters and still in Makos (as am I) until I can't find anymore in the US for them to grow into, I will tell you that for both of them, I simply have the steel profiled -2.  The combined pitch of the holder and steel is +3.  To me personally and from their comments, the +3 is too aggressive (one is defenseman and the other is a very good backwards skater) so, they don't like the aggressive pitch.  I don't like it either and negative profile mine as well.  Anyways...... both of them get a -2 pitch on the steel, which leaves the skates at +1 overall and they're good.  My son skated in Vapors for a year before moving to Makos.  We initially put Tuuk holders on the Makos to get them to feel like Vapors, but the rivets pulled out a lot.  So, after that first pair of skates, we went to negative profiling and it works much better.  Since rivet integrity is an issue on Makos, I would probably try  to avoid shims to avoid any manipulation of the rivet holder interface.  Since we've gone to negative pitch with the kids, there have been far fewer rivet issues.

    I hope that helps.

The shop inside of Las Vegas Ice has many pairs of Makos still.

That’s spot on- except professional opinions are hard to come by in the old model. For every JR or Marcelo there’s 100 dolts out there sharing misinformation.

Most shop employees I encounter will just tell me to put a Nexus on my C width foot because it “looks sick bro”.

That said, I’m very excited about this program as it sounds like Bauer has “idiot proofed” this process to the extent feasible for both the consumer and the shop fitter.

I wouldn't go as far to say they "idiot proofed" it, but Bauer/CCM/True are trying to eliminate some of the guesswork that shops previously had to do.
