  1. Dougie's in a big time funk... dunno what his problem is... wonder if he's hurt.
  2. are those a carbon fiber boot? dont you have screws? i'd find a boot that you can punch out and manipulate... that'd be my only advice. I was thinking about s15's, but in retrospect, it's probably good i didnt go with them.
  3. i think mine was 99 days post surgery for skating and 120 days for playing some pickup. it wont be until about 5 or 6 mos before i want to play in a league again.
  4. i've done some drop in pick up games. i still have a lot more of the fine muscle control to get back... gonna keep hitting the weight room as well. It's been raining 3 days straight here, so my ankle felt like crap. At any rate, it has give out on me a few times, all towards ends of shifts. I've got a pronger/mckee/gleason style skate guard made up out of plastic. I doubt it would hold up against a real slap shot, but it's added protection on my foot to deflect sticks and the like. I wore it the last time, had stick marks on it, and i can honestly say i dont remember getting hit. Before i had it made up i felt every little thing. very small outside chance I'll get one made out of some fiberglass or carbon fiber. I'll get some pics up later when i finish painting it black and lacquering it
  5. I played some hockey for the first time today, 120 days post surgery. I felt pretty good, every now and then id catch an edge where my leg wasnt strong enough or my ankle wasnt too happy and i went down. overall i was happy, though. Whenever someones leg brushed mine or stick hit my boot it caused some discomfort (more so when my leg got pushed a bit)... I'm probably going to try to procure some of those mckee style shot blockers...
  6. i know it sucks, just wait a little longer and everything should be good what exactly is bothering you? just pressure on the inside screw heads when i jam on the brakes or do backwards stuff. lot of scar tissue straining and tearing still. i'm getting better at hitting that outside edge, so atleast something is improving.
  7. glad to hear yours is going smoothly, aviator... mine has been an absolute bitch lately...
  8. i was cleared and released form my doctor on thursday. i skated today, 99 days post surgery. i can do cross overs going to the left, but to the right im not strong enough (and theres pain). I can go backwards reeeeaaaallly slowly, and stop facing the left. havent tried to the right. I only lasted 30 minutes, and tried not to go too hard, but i did get moving a couple times. Need to get my skates sharpened with a deeper hollow, i think i'm on 11/16" right now, which is what i got in june. between harder ice and weaker legs, it was sliding out a little when i got moving faster.
  9. went to the LHS and worked up my boot with the owner, who had a similar injury (his limitations is a slight loss of forward flex, and has nothing he cant do other than skiing hurts a bit) they're ugly as hell on that inside ankle, but they fit like a dream now! i can flex forward and everything. should get cleared to hit the ice on thursday. Currently i have a loss of 5 degrees on my plantar flexion, so they're expecting me to gain it all back when the swelling is reduced.
  10. the last time i was at the doctor, he told me that most people lose about 20 degrees of motion with this type of injury. I'm at about 15 degrees, but at a point where I'm still going to improve. Also, with my 15 degree loss, i already exceed "normal" flexibility, because my ankles have a freakishly large range of motion. However, this is the first time he said dont expect 100% recovery, which i'm kind of pissed he wasnt more upfront. as far as my day to day impact, it's swollen and have been told it wont go down to it's 'normal' size for another six or so months, and that my ankle will be larger than my left one on a permanent basis. I can walk fine most of the time, but still do have the odd limp thrown in there. I'm also back to light running, and am exceeding what the physical therapists expect of me at this time frame. But like kred just said, each situation is different. but for the quick and dirty on your questions: 1- you will start walking without a boot sooner than had you only broken the fibula and not had a plate in there 2-hardware not so much a problem for everyday, but i've tried my skates on and it's a problem around where the screws for the tibia are. 3-dunno yet, if i decide i need it come next june, thats when it would come out.
  11. ahhh its at a hosp... yeah. luckily my dr has an xray machine in house.
  12. i'd be cautious about not going back. the fracture may be mended and healed, but when you dont put weight on a bone for many weeks you have changes in bone density. you likely wont have a problem, but I'd go back as long as they say to, so that they can check for problems like a hairline crack or something like that. though, why you have a 5 hour long doctor visit is beyond me...that's just insane. i'm in and out in 45 mins.
  13. woooo! i'm "weeks ahead" of schedule on my recovery! the physical therapists are putting me in a pretty aggressive program, too. things are starting to feel pretty good, i'm still jsut so freaking swollen.
  14. cavs--nice set of stuff... pretty sweet indeed
  15. well had my first PT session monday. They've got me focusing on rolling onto my toes when I walk... basically reteaching me how to walk, so i dont limp around.
  16. most of the muscle and soft tissue stuff I can work out after a few steps... my balls are just so sensitive yes, i know what i just said.
  17. so how are the bottoms of your guys feet? my ankle feels fantastic, and the soft tissue sore... but the balls of my heel and balls of my toes huuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrtttttttt. two days after getting off crutches, so i expect some pain, but day-um.
  18. ewww yikes... what a nut job but... WOOO! I'm walking. In sneakers too. No big fat clunky boot like I thought I'd be in for 6 weeks. I'm still on crutches for stability for a few days, but can shed them when I feel comfortable. Will be starting physical therapy soon, too. I'm pretty excited, things are much faster than we expected. Screw removal will not happen until the 1 year mark when my bone density is back. I can start running in about a month, and when he said i can run and do cuts, i should be good to go on skates. I'll post regarding my PT appointments, the exercises and stuff for those looking for some.
  19. yeah, this one is sticking way out... the swelling is going down, so i noticed it. my solution is screw removal. ;)
  20. yeah, mines still pretty swollen, and i can feel all the screw heads. ones reaaaaallu sticking out... like visibly so.
  21. anyone have any updates on their ankles? I go back the 24th (day 40 since surgery). At which point, i should be getting off crutches. w00t
  22. copy cat :P i spray painted my holders black when i got my vector 10's... i just picked up black e-pros and they're being mounted
  23. if you dont feel comfortable go to another orthopaedic doctor... get a second opinion
