  1. I put em on, they feel like crap (the bonafide). you get what you pay for. the ak27 gloves... the graphics look funny up close. the glove is dye sublimated, and it really cheapens the look imo. an interesting concept, but the execution is less impressive in person.
  2. think about the skating motion, your foot rolls through the length of the blade, so it's in contact with the ice longer on a longer blade. the actual rocker you can get to be the same size, but you still have that extra length you wont roll through. I went from 255 to 238 and initially thought i was losing extra power. you feel it.
  3. i recently dropped down a significant holder size, especially since my orginal blades were radiused to be flatter. Any way, it was weird at first, but i got used to it just fine after a skate or two.
  4. or they can be hiding them as vapor XXXXs because the packages of the one95 and a vapor skate look NOTHING alike. the skate will be built on a different last from what i understand, and will have some different foams and graphics. it's pretty easy to slap some old graphics on stuff. i think he was talking about a x:60 stick not skates ah, my bad. I could see that.

  6. yeah, it's gonna be a bitch man. I'm almost 11 months out and still have residual pain. I did have the best recover as far as function goes out of any patient that the doctors in the office have seen. So, i guess i can trade some pain for that extra bit of mobility.
  7. cracked all the way through into the joint, huh. that's not gonna be fun coming back from... that's the part that still hurts the most. good luck.
  8. well, i guess it's good that your first ankle isnt giving you any trouble.
  9. maybe you should stop going feet first into the boards ;) I'm sorry to hear that you have to go through that whole mess again. How was your other ankle feeling?
  10. i went back and read your description, sounds like it was far worse than mine. It's really only uncomforatable when i first lace them up. after a few minutes it's ok. I do have a pocket so there's minimal pressure on the screw heads, so that helps
  11. when i talked to my doctor about what that surgery would entail, he said I'd be in a boot and on crutches for 2 weeks. That's just to allow the wounds to heal properly. He told me i could walk after that, but it would be 3 months or more before my bone was fully healed. Of course every situation will vary. Are yours particularly painful? I thought i was going to want them out, but honestly, I'm near full range of motion (95%ish), and the inside ankle only hurts in my skates. Well, there is the daily pain associated, but its not bad enough to make me want to endure another surgery and recovery. Its only risking a decrease in range of motion.
  12. if you're in a beer league, I cant stress enough really taking your time. Dont push it. Go ahead and get back in skates, but your ankle will tire quickly. I took my time getting back, because when your ankle gets as tired as it does your skating gets shot to all hell and can end up being dangerous (ankle giving out and going down, etc).
  13. i sat on my ass, i didnt feel the need to exercise. I just came back at it hard when i was cleared. I'm still in my vector 10.0's, with the inside ankle punched out. have ankle protection for it, too. It's not going to be fun picking out a skate next time around.
  14. are those a carbon fiber boot? dont you have screws? i'd find a boot that you can punch out and manipulate... that'd be my only advice. I was thinking about s15's, but in retrospect, it's probably good i didnt go with them.
  15. i think mine was 99 days post surgery for skating and 120 days for playing some pickup. it wont be until about 5 or 6 mos before i want to play in a league again.
  16. i've done some drop in pick up games. i still have a lot more of the fine muscle control to get back... gonna keep hitting the weight room as well. It's been raining 3 days straight here, so my ankle felt like crap. At any rate, it has give out on me a few times, all towards ends of shifts. I've got a pronger/mckee/gleason style skate guard made up out of plastic. I doubt it would hold up against a real slap shot, but it's added protection on my foot to deflect sticks and the like. I wore it the last time, had stick marks on it, and i can honestly say i dont remember getting hit. Before i had it made up i felt every little thing. very small outside chance I'll get one made out of some fiberglass or carbon fiber. I'll get some pics up later when i finish painting it black and lacquering it
  17. I played some hockey for the first time today, 120 days post surgery. I felt pretty good, every now and then id catch an edge where my leg wasnt strong enough or my ankle wasnt too happy and i went down. overall i was happy, though. Whenever someones leg brushed mine or stick hit my boot it caused some discomfort (more so when my leg got pushed a bit)... I'm probably going to try to procure some of those mckee style shot blockers...
  18. i know it sucks, just wait a little longer and everything should be good what exactly is bothering you? just pressure on the inside screw heads when i jam on the brakes or do backwards stuff. lot of scar tissue straining and tearing still. i'm getting better at hitting that outside edge, so atleast something is improving.
  19. glad to hear yours is going smoothly, aviator... mine has been an absolute bitch lately...
  20. i was cleared and released form my doctor on thursday. i skated today, 99 days post surgery. i can do cross overs going to the left, but to the right im not strong enough (and theres pain). I can go backwards reeeeaaaallly slowly, and stop facing the left. havent tried to the right. I only lasted 30 minutes, and tried not to go too hard, but i did get moving a couple times. Need to get my skates sharpened with a deeper hollow, i think i'm on 11/16" right now, which is what i got in june. between harder ice and weaker legs, it was sliding out a little when i got moving faster.
  21. went to the LHS and worked up my boot with the owner, who had a similar injury (his limitations is a slight loss of forward flex, and has nothing he cant do other than skiing hurts a bit) they're ugly as hell on that inside ankle, but they fit like a dream now! i can flex forward and everything. should get cleared to hit the ice on thursday. Currently i have a loss of 5 degrees on my plantar flexion, so they're expecting me to gain it all back when the swelling is reduced.
