what's the difference between say ccm's prolite 3 and tuuk customs? i've never skated on bauer's so i don't really know. also, do any players buy ccm skates and put tuuks on them at all??

There's a huge difference in feel between the two imo. I'm sure someone with more technical knowledge about holders will tell you the differences in height, angles, etc. The tuuks feel a lot more solid to me. I felt that the prolites flexed a bit when I was making hard turns or stops. Do any players put tuuks on ccm boots? Tons. Practically all NHLers who wear ccm boots swap the prolites for the tuuks.

You'll find a lot of folks here who don't like the ProLite 3. Apparently the fronts can break if you're hard on them. As for me, I'm a lightweight so I think they work fine.

The new line of CCM Tacks skates do not have ProLite holders. As for the angles/pitch, I always get those mixed up so I'll let the experts handle that part.

Cheers,

JJ

P.S. No fooling, during the Stanley cup finals Iggy had a pair of Vectors with ProLite 3s on them. I saw it on the NHL gallery here and even made a comment about it. Very rare. I'm guessing there was a story behind that.

I've swapped more broken prolites than any other holder. Prolites are a little taller in the back, like a lightspeed but not as sturdy. I did not like the feel of the prolite buckling when I turned hard or stopped.

so then how are the e blades ( i think that's what their called?) that are on the vectors and this years tacks? are those much better than prolite 3 then?

the ccm e-holder or the old holder that was on the koho skates has stronger rear and front posts. now they have actually stopped production on the prolite holder since it makes it simpler for retailers to only have to stock one holder rather than the 2.

I can second that. I have never been able to put that feeling into words, but that makes total sense. But mine have held up. Never have broken them, and that is even though I use my old soccer skills more than I should and will sometimes block shots with the instep of my foot and sometimes the holder itself.

I've broken at least 6-8 on guys trying to block my shots. Some of them weren't even that hard.

maybe you don't know your own strength ;)

but when you broke the holders, do you buckle the towers or did the blade/flat section snap?

I replaced mine on my old 852s before they broke, the Tuuks were much more supportive. Usually I see them break on the front tower, generally on the inside of the foot.
