Easton Z-Carbon Wood Sticks

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone.

I'm contemplating an Easton Z-Carbon 100 (Drury pattern) for my next stick but I'd like to know what most wood stick users think of them before I drop $45 CDN on one.

How accurate is the 100 flex rating? Is it close or is it higher or lower?

How is the feel of the stick?

How durable is it?

Did you like it? If not, why not? (answers like "because it sucks" or "because it's crap" don't help much here.)

Thanks in advance.

I have a '03 110 Modano Z-Carb. The flex rating seems accurate, the feel is good, durability seems good, overall its a nice wood stick. I just don't care for the Modano pattern so its about 5th or 6th in line of my sticks. I think I paid about $25US for mine.

i prefer them over sher woods any day the blade is composite so it lasts longer than wood

i agree that they last longer because of the composite blade. also, the pattern is more accurate than a standard wood blade because of the same reason. pick up two sherwood coffeys or whatever, and its not unusual to find small differences in them. this doesnt happen with the eastons. i think that if you get the right sherwood for you (5030, 7000, 9950), its hard to beat the feel - and the eastons dont really do it. still, the z's have great feel overall, especially coming from composite materials - and it does last longer than sherwood. i will say one thing about that though, even after my sherwood loses its flex, i find i an still use it and adjust. with the z carbons - once the blade loses its flex... its useless. you cant go wrong with either if you want wood -imo. if you really love an easton pattern then definitely try one out, its worth it. also, bauer is coming out with their equivalent to the z-carbon soon. it will have the lindros, hossa, peca, and kovulchuk i believe - ilyas being a drury clone.

the first z carbon woodie i tried was your drury, and i loved it. it lasted about 5 or 6 games - which is great for me with a woodie (im 6'4" 215). i never felt the accuracy of a z carbon composite blade was even close to be honest. i cant use the drury in a composite - i shot high whenever i shot it quick...but thats just me. i found i could control the shot no problem with the z carb woodie. hope that helps a little bit.

If you mean the Bauer Fibre Elite or Fibre Fusion then I guess I'm out of luck as the Kovalchuk curve (P91) won't be offered on either of them.

I was using them a few years ago but none lasted more than two times on the ice. At that time, I was on the ice 4-5 times a week and $50 or more a week on sticks wasn't acceptable. I tried the newer models after they changed the fiber wrap and broke both on the second or third shot.

I've used my 100Flex Modano for over 8 games and 20 2-hour long practise sessions... no issues so far! (Got the usual deep cuts in the shaft from hooking etc etc :D)
