Trying to recall

Recommended Posts

I was trying explainto a friend an old Tuuk blade that I remember. It was gold (in colour) and from toe a 1/4 way down the blade was what looked normal thickness and then it got skinny the rest of the 3/4 of the blade. It was in the early 90's when the 652 tacks were really popular? anyone remeber this?

Thanks Sid

The V2 blade.

Here's a link to another thread about this on MSH:

Skate Hollow: go to Dec 23

According to the marketing for it at the time, the thinner section would be a shallower hollow and allow for a better glide, and the thicker section at the front would have a deeper hollow and give better bite for starts.

V2s weren't gold though. The "normal" part of the blade was steel-colored and the skinnier part had a rough, darker grey finish. The V2 holders had red and blue printing.

The gold blades you're thinking of were titanium blades offered by CCM (SLM). They weren't around for long though, as they were too soft to get a good sharpening on. They tore up wheels left and right.

Tuuk had titanium blades as well. You weren't supposed to hone them after sharpening.

Actually, I had a very good source once tell me that they were in fact not titanium. That was simply the name of the Daoust skate that they were on and they asked for the blade to be anodized.

There's a pair in my old shop, white Tuuks with "Titanium" stickers on the holder. They were Bauers - if I'm not mistaken it was the outside of the blade that was "titanium."

That's right... they were standard on some old Supremes... 935 or 944 or something like that.
