Tackla 9000's vs. RBK 8K

Recommended Posts

<EDIT> I already searched for this, but I couldn't find anything close to what I was looking for.

Went in to buy some pants today. Regular pants are too long for my short legs. Even though I am 6'5", all the pants I tried on went well below my knees. I was told the RBK's are adjustable for legnth, and the Tackla's are available in 1" and 2" shorter sized. Neither were in stock, so I couldn't try them on. My question is since they are both the same price, is one pant fit/made better than the other? I know I should probably order both pants, but I don't want my LHS to be stuck with a 2" shorter pair of size 56 Tackla 9000's if I decide on the RBK's. Or can my LHS return the Tackla's back to the manufacturer if I don't like them.

Bouce, this probably lies in your hands, so thank you ahead of time.

I think that the 9000 with a shorter leg will be a custom upcharge. I can't remember. I know they have a model that comes in tall cut - not sure if it is 9000.

You might want to look at M-1 or L7s. THose can be shortened on the fly.

The RBKs can be shortened, however, the shell stays the same length.

9000 comes in tall, short and hefty as well as standard. All of the non-standard models will likely be a $10 upcharge from a dealer.

I would also agree with checking out the missions, even the L5 will come with the adjustable leg.

You're 6'5" and regular hockey pants are too short? Wow, that's some funky proportions. Are you sure you're wearing them correctly? Pants have padding that is meant to protect your lower back and kidneys so it's not uncommon for this part of the pant to come up as high as your ribcage.

Most of the kids I see don't wear them anywhere close to high enough. It really isn't a personal preference issue, as the pants are designed to protect when worn properly.

Yep I'm positive. I have a 25.5" inseam, but my dress shirts are an 18 inch neck and 40 inch sleeve. When I tried on the pants, the crotch was where it was supposed to be, but the pant bottoms were still below my knee. I do wear my pants a little low, but I still get full coverage. It's funny watching me sit down because in some chairs, my feet barely touch the ground.

Sounds like you should be a swimmer instead of a hockey player. The Mission Pants should work pretty well for you once they show up at your local dealer.
