Skating treadmill

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about using a Frappier Acceleration skating treadmill for rehab this summer. Has anybody tried it, and if so, what were your experiences like?

Thanks in advance...

I use one every week or so. Really tough training when you get the incline going and a med. ball. Also make sure that you get used to skating on it, it feels really weird.

Do you guys own them?

I'm pretty sure that they go to their local gym. Lots of larger gyms in my area have these treadmills, I have never used one though.

what happens if you fall? What is the thing that you skate on even made out of?

If you fall you are attached to a harness so you can't hit the ground. There is also a bar in front just in case you need some training wheels. It's made out of that slick plastic stuff, it really eats skate blades up. But, as I mentioned in another thread, I got free sharpenings for life so it doesn't matter.

And Kovy - I don't own it, but my school does. My school is like a public school, except you go to class for 3 1/2 hours, until 12:10, and then you play hockey. Most days you either go to the gym, on ice, or treadmill. It's a good dealio.

Na just my school right now, normal public.. Next year it's different though, I'm going to prep school then.

It's called Vimy, it's in Edmonton. It's complete garbage though, except for when you are on ice. I think I might be able to teach better than some of our teachers.

The classes are way harder than other schools, you have to be serious about the work. The only thing thats the same is that the schedule is mostly the same as most schools (8:30-3:30). You get computers and you live at school, all that good stuff.

Any sort of synthetic ice screws up your blades. It really rounds them over, and you need to grind the heck out of them to get the edge back.

What we do is have two sets of skates, good ones for ice, and a used pair from ebay for the synthetic stuff. It is the only way to go.

I think I will do it. In addition to rehabbing my leg, I hope to regain some top-end speed that I have lost over the years.

kovalchuk71: No, I won't buy one, I will use one at a workout centre in Vancouver (Performance Institute at Burnaby 8 Rinks). I don't think you can use one without somebody else manning the controls.

Since I am so old to start using this device I will probably be suspended from the ceiling by the "training wheel" harness a lot.

I didn't know that the synthetic ice stuff chewed up the blades so much, so I will put my old blades on my skates when I do the workouts.

Thanks for all the advice.

ktang how much do they charge to use that? Always wanted to try it...

blues_91:

You're in Vancouver too, right? Their number is (604) 291-9941. The first evaluation session is free. Probably because a lot of people spend most of the session suspended by the harness.

If you buy a package of 12 or more it is Cdn$28 per session. If you get fewer, it is Cdn$34 per session.

i use one 3 times a week and it has greatly improved my stride. they video tape you skating where i go and then they can pinepoint what you are doing wrong. lots of college level players go to the treadmill i use. it is pretty spendy though.

as for rounding over your skate blades i have had no such problem me and the kids i skate with have no problem going from treadmil to ice

hockey champ14 have you actually ued one . maybe you had a bad expierience because of bad instrucyor etc
