stealth vs SL

Recommended Posts

well ive been usign my SL for 3+ months, and got a stealth and let me say im not pleased or impressed with the stealth. the blade is wicked stiff and the flex (100) seems too stiff on top of all the hoopla about the stealth really being a 90-95 flex. i would put the Sl over the stealth anyday, anyone else agree? state ur opinions

I liked my SL way way more than the Stealth that I tried for a few praccy's. Both are useless if you don't have good hands, though.

I actually felt that the stealth had better feel while the SL could fire the puck a bit better. As for durability, I've had bad experiences with the Stealth's shaft durability and the SL's blade durability.

Yep same here I love my stealth's, the only problem i have is the mismarked flex, But, that's not too huge of a problem so i'm really happy.

To me, stealth durability is great. I'v ehad mine for almost 2 months using it at least three time per week and all that's happened is paint chipping. I'm usually tough on my OPS breaking them usually in between 2 and 3 weeks but this one has lasted MUCH longer so it seems prety perfect to me.

my SL is amazing, but the only stick that can rival it in my opinoin is the synthesis with the sicore blade. it had better feel but it didnt fire the puck as well. both are great sticks. ive never tryed a stealth but i think it would be too light for me. the SL is pushin it for weight. i like to be able to feel something in my hands. also the durability has been great so far 3+months

I have not tried the SL, however, I have used the Stealth and was not impressed. I found the flex near the top of the stick to be far whippier than at the bottom (towards the blade).

I also didn't like the thinner shaft dimension.

As for the blade being too stiff, I take more slap shots than wrist shots, so, from my standpoint, there is no such thing as a blade that's too stiff. If you think that's stiff, you'll HATE the XN10's blade.

Overall, I found the Stealth to be over-hyped for my limited use. I ended up liking my XN10 more, so stuck with it. Even now that I'm using a XX, I still haven't gone back to my Stealth. Your question makes me wonder though - maybe I'll bring it to my game tomorrow night and mess with it some in warm-ups.

i don't get it...every body complain about blade being softer after time...and now they are super stiff..you don't like them...

as for me..i used some graphite blade but the best one(and the one i used for the longest time) is my sicore synthesis...it not hyper stiff(it does bend a BIT..if you force)but i think you need some softeness to catch pass...

I had a friend in my team who use the stealth all the season long(5x time per week for 9-10 month) and it never broke still use them...i think you guys are some time a bit agressive with your stick!!!:P( no offense lol!)

but all this is really interesting...because i would like to try OPS..(i always use 2 piece(tapered or standard)

My SL lasted about 2 month's but then somebody stepped on it in inline. I can still use it for inline, just not ice hockey.

Ill post my question in here instead of opening another thread:

Could it be negative that the SL is so light?

I got this stick very cheap from the states and it wasnt even released over here, so i just bought it. Havent had the chance to test it, i still can get a sh1tload of money for it on ebay.de, so...

Sometimes when im practising stickhandling in my room i notice some weird things.

When im doing it with my yellow Synergy Grip im "good" but when i try it with the synergy sl, im feeling like a total newbee..

I dont know what it is and why, but i cant controll the ball (stickhandling ball) as good as with the yellow grip.

Could the minor weight be a negative aspect ?

Im not quite sure.

Could it be a negative? It's a personal preference thing, but I think so (and I recognize the marketing hype has put me in the minority in this regard). For one, I find if it's too light, the durability has to be suspect. Also, I think if it gets too light vibration and/or puck feel may suffer. I use the Busch sticks (550 grams, and is noted for it's superior durability and puck feel - too bad they haven't taken their engineering to a higher level to develop kick points and a tapered shaft.... but I digress), the Bauer Endure (gained weight over the XX - what are they, like 480 grams? - in effort to increase durability), and TPS Adrenaline (gained 30 grams in weight over the XN10 to help with vibration complaints).

ANYWAY, I am not one who is sold on lighter=better. I personally don't like the Stealth. It is amazingly light, but I just don't like it for some reason.

REGARDLESS, back to your question: presuming that the blade end is light, that is supposed to help stick handling (at least, that's what the experts say). The idea, as I understand it, is that the weight of the puck becomes more noticeable while on your blade.

I actually like my Stealth. I liked the thinner handle shape (not sure if the SL has it) and I have no difficulty handling "hotter" blades. I notice the weight reduction when I am playing. I haven't used the SL, so I can't say anything good, or bad about it.

I bought it for the hype and i have to say i like the stick. After while the stealth feels like any stick i switched my stealth for my ccm vector 110 and didnt notice much at all my shot didnt have the snap and i could not feel the puck as well so i switched back to the stealth. For duribility shes been a tank a lot of chips in the paint and in the toe of the blade but it still feels like the day i got it.

I haven't tried a SL. However, from what I understand (based on people I've talked to), it's basically a lighter synnergy - materials, feel, etc are in line with the "old" synnergies. I don't know about durability of a SL. If I had to guess (and it IS a guess), I'd probably think it'd be slightly less durable than an old synnergy (because it's basically the same composition fashioned to be lighter). I don't know if the shaft dimensions are the same or not (there's a thread around here somewhere that mathmatically figured out how much weight loss could, theoretically, be attributed to the thinner shaft dimension of the shaft over that of the "wider" synnergy).

HOWEVER, I have tried a Stealth. I am in the minority, and recognize that, but I was not a fan of it. It is important to note that I only used it for 3 games, so judgement should be weighted accordingly. However, I have used a fare share of OPS prior to this one. For one, I didn't like the WAY it flexed. I found that the upper portion of the stick flexed far more than the lower portion. It was quite weird. I know the old "tri-flexes" had some sort of bow-type flex designed in it. Maybe that's what Easton was shooting for? I don't know.

The chrome paint at the bottom of the stick was a farce. Chipped, peeled, etc just after 3 games. It'll look like junk after some serious usage. Naturally, looks aren't what counts, but if you pay Corvette money (equivalently speaking), you don't want something that looks like a Kia 4 door - know what I mean?

I did not find the performance particularly notable. I did find with my Vapor it took some time to adjust to the stick before I got the most out of it, but in the same time with my Stealth, I didn't notice anything particularly outstanding.

SO, that's my take. It IS personal preference. I sold the stick recently, that guy used it in one game and LOVED it. He was coming from one of the old Synnergies.

Cavs, how does the SL feel compare to the ST?

Does the ST have improved feel over the previous Synergy models?

I actually prefer the stealth over the SL. The SL durability seemed better. I sold my SL to a friend on my team after I used it for about 2 weeks, it was nice, but I just liked the stealth more. I have had many stealths break but I dont care, there for performance and if they break..they break. Funny though, I had 3 pro stock stealths before the regular hockey season started and they all broke with in about a month and a half. Then I got 2 retail stealths and they lasted me the whole high school season. They both broke in my first midget major tourny. Now in about a month and a half period I have broken 3 more retail stealths. 2 of them I was just shooting and the shaft snapped on me.
