Time to replace Elbow Pads?

Recommended Posts

I've owned a pair of Jofa JDP 6044 for about 6 years now. They work just fine and I love them to death, but I'm thinking that maybe now would be a good time to replace them. For one, no matter how much i try to sanitize and wash out the smell, it will come back in full force after using them for one session.

While that is something I could actually tolerate, the possible bacterial buildup, possible molding, and the general reaction of people reacting like the cologne scene in the movie "Anchorman:The Legend of Rob Burgandy" isn't that appealing. They were white when brand-new, but no matter what they will always be heavily stained from sweat.

Now, What I'm taking a look at is maybe getting a pair of Nike V-14s, since I've heard that their protection is up there with Jofa, except that its lighter and less bulky. So do you guys think its time for a change? And if so, how do u think the V-14s compare?

Have you tried washing it in the washing machine (delicate cycle, water hot) with some good smelling detergent? I know the question seems obvious, but you'd be amazed at how many players don't think of it (i.e., they hand wash or spray off with a hose).

I went from a pair of 5044's from about 9 years ago to V10's and love them..I had been looking for TPS Bionic's which are super comfy.but the V10's are on par with anything out there..V14's were a bit more than I needed..

I prefer the more articulated style pads that really move with you. The DR EP44s are fantastic and only $40 or so. They have been very popular this year for us.
